I just spent a couple of days on a new really detailed musket reload animation.. and only realised at the end that I'd made the whole thing left-handed! I suppose it makes sense that you should swap hands with a musket when reloading it so you can do everything with the dominant hand, that's what the guy in the movie I was using as a reference was doing.

Is there any way at all I can mirror the whole animation, or at a bigger push is there any way of making a weapon swap hands for the duration of a given animation? Maybe a vertex animation that shrinks the right hand item and simultaneously enlarges the left hand item? I desperately don't want to lose all that work.

Yeah, providing you made this in max or something your best bet is to try and mirror the animation somehow.

If you are inside blender, and you are using blender 2.49 not the one that is in alpha. You have to rig the guy, then name each bone like:

upperarm.r
upperarm.l

Put l and r for left and right on bones that should be mirrored. Then you select the animation you have made for the bones on the left side and you click something like. (Cant remember) But its something like edit/mirror/xy...now the animation will be mirrored over somehow.

I haven't done this a lot in blender, since I'm not a animator. But if you play around with it you should be able to mirror the animation...that is if you are making the animation in blender. And if you can even export blenders animation...I have no idea what you use...

Why did the item even have to be a connected bone in the first place?

Looks like I'll just have to trace it back on the other way around then. I can think of a couple of improvements to make while I'm at it.
