No links etc, because I'm in a hurry.
Basically, a politician is introducing a state bill that will ban high capacity magazines, due to the recent shooting in Arizona, the one with Giffords. She said that 'There's no reason for people to have high capacity magazines, and they are only for killing innocent people'
Why I think it's bull****:
Loads of pistols (Most in 9mm, .45 etc) have standard magazines designed for more than ten rounds, the limit she's proposing.
She's heavily biased - Her husband was killed ten years ago by someone with a pistol loaded with a hi-cap. He was shot with like, the first few rounds, but since it was loaded with a hi-cap, it's terrible and must be banned omg.
In, say, a home defence situation, you might not have access to other magazines, or the time to reload. Extra shots might very well be needed.
Statistically speaking, misuse is in the *extreme* minority.
"If you're an anti-gunner and you say you're only trying to re-write the Constitution in order to save lives why don't you go after something like cigarettes or car safety regulations, things that will actually yield statistically significant results, saving lives and not infringing on the rights of law abiding citizens. More people will die from drowning at public pools in a few weeks in the summer than they will all year in shooting massacres but you never see the gun grabbers shouting for more lifeguards or pool safety regulations."
Many case-studies show that you will need a lot of rounds to put down a drugged up junkie robbing you, etc.
For example:
http://www.lawofficer.com/article/training/officer-down-peter-soulis-inci - 22 bullets hit him before he went down.
http://www.theshootist.net/2009/01/one-man-got-involved-perry_12.html - This guy continues to beat someone despite being shot 4 times. And when he's SHOT IN THE HEAD, he gets up and turns to attack the other officer.
http://www.lawofficer.com/article/training/officer-down-warriors-sacrific - A man gets his foot literally shot off, continues going.
****ty post, but meh. Thoughts?
