A way to increase companions renown?

So you've fought a 100 battles and now starting out with your own kingdom.  But you need dependable vassals and you want to give some fiefs to one of your companions.  So I hand over a town or a few fiefs and my companion / vassal starts recruiting but their renown is so low they can barely field any troops. Is there some way we could have companions renown go up as ours goes up? I mean after all they are supposed to be heroes and well known since they are your companions.  Seems odd to me that they have so little renown once they separate from you.

I know i could always try to recruit lords and I plan to, but in my current game I really dont have any that like me and I wish there was some way I could have companions with higher renown so that they can actually field 200 or more men.

I agree, I like my companions because I can boost their relation with me to 100 before I send them off but they are pretty pathetic when they only carry around 100 men in their army. Even the weaker lords in the game have at least 150.

Maybe make it so that their starter renown is half or 2/3'ds of your character's renown when you give them a fief?

Can you possibly just edit their character text files in the Mount&Blade folder usually found in My Documents?  I'm in the library and away from my home PC so I can't check it right now but i think you can just edit their individual files using notepad.  I'll check when I get home.

Renown is not included in character export.

Lol leadership is fail in Brytenwalda  +1 men per leadership skill

I don't know on what setting do you play but if I were you I'll bash some bandit parties with my companion, be sure to have 0 troops in your party to maximize renown.
This works great because you can easily catch those fleeing bandit at great speed on the map and your companion will join you anyway with his troops.
