Torak

Squire
AKA the most underrated 80s guitarist.

Whenever there's a 'Request only' Classical Rock day on the station I frequently listen to, I always have the urge to call in and ask for a song by Yngwie, but never manage to because I'm a ***** when it comes to radio host persuading.

I'd just like to know how many people out there know him.

Oh, he is brilliant of course but I'd rather listen to something stupid and fun. I don't think anyone would mind if you requested some old Yngwie, I wouldn't mind. Request some Loudness too, I never bought any of their stuff but it cracked me up.

He is made of win. His electric guitar orchestra thing, among others, was fantastic.

I got the chance to see him live on a festival, but went to go see something else instead. I heard he wrecked his guitar on stage though.

I can't stand this guy, my absolute least favorite guitarist ever. Yeah, he plays fast, but his notes have no meaning, no soul. It's just a lot of notes for the sake of playing a lot of notes, which is not, IMHO, what music is about.

Have you ever listened to recordings of paganini's caprices? look up the Alexander Markov versions. Those songs are just alot of notes played fast. Faster than even Yngwie plays, yet they're looked upon as masterpieces, they're played with soul, complex arrangements, and I certainly enjoy listening too them. Songs can have fast notes and still have soul, Yngwie demonstrates this and it's not just him, there are alot of players who play fast but still with soul.

Im not disputing your tastes  here, just trying to get across music doesn't have to be Eric Clapton to have a  bit of "soul"

What's Clapton have to do with anything? I'll agree that music can have fast notes, and just general technical proficiency, and have soul, but with Yngvie it's just technical proficiency. I'm a big fan of groups like the Mahavishnu Orchestra, Yes, Frank Zappa, John Coltrane, I could go on for days. All of the above bands and musicians are all very technically proficient and also have tons of stuff to say. All Yngvie has to say is: "look how fast I can play!"

I was using him too illustrate my point!

Too me, some of Yngwies music DOES HAVE SOUL, some of it is just fast notes and is over the top, but too call him your least favourtie guitarist?
He does what he wants and has worked hard at it, it takes more effort than you think too play fast compositions with feeling, which he can do! and his vibrato is fantastic!

He's a good performer and alot of listeners enjoy his music, me included.

And I noticed you like alot of jazz based music...kinda tells me why you are being a music nazi, jumping on the bandwagon. Don't get me wrong, I love alot of Jazz based music, Jazz-fusion guitarist Guthrie Govan is my favourite guitarist, Im sure it's not the only base genre you listen too aswell.

Too me, Malmsteen does have something too say, look at it from a musicians point of view, he may not be too your tastes, but you cannot argue he DOES play alot of his song with feeling, he loves what he does and always has, and so do his fans.

Oh god.
YAY ARPEGGIOS DONE MEGA FAST ON SUPAR LECTRIC GEETAR!

I guess it must be fun to listen to if you play guitar, however, I don't, so the music is just... Not music to me.
Though I respect your opinions and that.
