A thankyou and a question.

Hello everyone. I am crustyrustyaphid and I just personally want to thank you all for such a magnificent game. It's system is amazing and I look forward to it's completion.

I have two questions though,
One is are the battle maps randomly generated? Because some seem to be flatlands when two steps away it is a mountainous hell hole. One thing is look at this screenshot I took:
cliffofdoom3yh.png

The entire map was a mountain touching the sky with deadly steep cliffs. Honestly about 8 of my soldiers fell off the cliffs and were knocked out or had their horses crippled. I managed to dodge the ledges on horseback until I went over the water where my horse slid down and was crippled. Also another thing that seems to be a clitch is when people fall off mountains they float up sometimes to the top of the mountain and then is given the fall damage. Pretty darn hilarious.

Also I heard there might be castles you can make in the final version. Is this true or just a rumor?

The terrain is mostly random. It's randomly generated as you move around, but if you stay and fight in one spot it won't change. And yeah, sometimes you run into some pretty crazy landscapes, I'm sure it'll be evened out a little in the future. As for castles, it is possible to build them now. Theres a thread or two on the subject, also check out the modding forum for help with the editor if you're interested.

Terrain is also dependent on where you are on the world map. If you're by mountains, the combat map will be mountainous, if you're on open plains...you get the idea. And in regards to castles, no. You cannot build them in the game right now, and what i think Nair is referring to is using the editor to create your own. But it's not part of them game yet, and i don't think anyone really knows whether it will be added or not. Armagan (the all mighty master creator) has been pretty secretive about where the game is going and what to expect. Goodluck and welcome to the forums!

But don't expect a linear relation. I remember battles on absurd mountainous maps although I was on the steppe, which seems to be "open plain" in the map.

Oh, also you may see a huge river accross the battle field even if there is no drop of water in the big map. But these are fine, they add some challenge to the game.

Terrain is not random, it's a set of pre-made locations, It becomes clear after several hundreds of battles fought, you just start to recognize them. Several versions ago, rivers and lakes seemed to be placed randomly, but I'm not sure it's true in newer versions.

Once, I finished the first part of a battle, and decided to leave the battle. Then, I veered and re-joined the battle and saw that the battle field was just the same as the previous one.

That agrees with what Manitas said, but I haven't tried it.
