I'm currently playing Prophesy of Pendor Mod which has taken M&B to new heights in strategy. It is a great mod.
That said, one thing that I really don't like is the randomness of maps. If you go to the exact same spot on the map and fight a battle there the terrain will be different. On a bridge? Different map. You never know what you are going to get and if you get an awesome defensive position and you try to come back to it to fight a desperate battle it won't be there. That is very frustrating.
Wouldn't it be better if the game used a kind of hex system where you go to a hex and you can select from a drop down menu the types of terrains. You might even be able to load that terrain, move around the map and pick your own starting point and the enemy's if you are defending.
Right now you have to scramble for position and it seems like IRL you would have more than a few seconds to plan a battle.
