Recruit
A Song of Ice and Fire (v0.1) for Mount&Blade 0.901

Here (http://home.arcor.de/chivalric00/a_song_of_ice_and_fire_0.1.exe you can download the mod.

Source Base for this mod is the Band of Warriors-Mod. Thus all features of this mod are included in A Song of Ice and Fire.

How to install (IMPORTANT):
You have to install version .901a101 or later of the Band of Warriors mod before installing this mod. When installing Band of Warriors change the destination folder to "...\Modules\asoiaf"

There will be a standalone installer as soon as a 'finished' version of my mod is done. I simply don't want to upload always a big file for every new version.

Features:
- Adapted names of factions, kings, knights and troops
- 20 NPCs (incl. adapted faces, char-values, items)
- Adapted faces for all kings and knights
- Optional parties of Greyjoy and Dothraki
- New troop advancement tree for Baratheon (completely new) and Stark (minor changes)
- Wildling-Quest (replaces the river pirates quest)
- 3 legends of Westeros

Planned Features:
- Map of Westeros (this is essential but I don't have enough time to do that; is there someone who could to that?)
- Adapted dialogs for NPCs (at the moment it's the text of the BoW-Mod)
- Valyrian steel blades as unique items (at the moment there are the unique items of the BoW-Mod)
- Adapted items for kings and knights

Credits:
- Chivalric
- Kid (faces, equipment, dialogs)
- Thanks to the Band of Warriors-Team for allocating their source-code

So it seems that there used to be some interest in this, but it's waned as of recently. I know that I have great interest, and before we start work on it again, I wanted to see if anybody else is still interested in helping with it in any way. I know that Bigwig and Hobbie got something done, but they seem to have disappeared from the forums.

For now, I would like to see if there is still interest in having this completed, and what people would like to see out of it. There have been suggestions for a Huge-War-like Mod, such as The Last Days, or a more story-driven one. Personally, I'm more interested in the former, but anything that lets me beat up on Lannisters is fantastic . I would have the game set at the beginning of "A Clash Of Kings", where Renly is still alive and the Martells have yet to be a factor, though everything is an option. Merentha has offered support, and I know people like Jon Snow still want to see it completed.

For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, "A Song Of Ice And Fire" is a series of books written by George R. R. Martin, based in the land of Westeros, where several great families battle for supremacy and the crown.

Feedback is appreciated so we can start work again.

Scripters- Grocat, Hobbie

I can help with some basic scripting.  I script for the Star Wars Mod...it's not too much trouble nor too time consuming.  For more serious scripting we'll need someone else...but...I'd love to see this completed.

Fantastic!

I'll put you down for now, and once we find more people that are interested, we can start the actual planning phase.

I've been meaning to learn how to mod just to be a part of this, but have never had the time. Shameful because I'm the most obsessive fan of the books.

I would be most useful during the planning phase since I've done a ton of research for a previous ASOIAF mod that never made it off the ground. I've also made some accurate maps in the past. Who knows, maybe some day I'll get off my butt and learn how to do something useful like scripting or modelling, if I can fit in the time.

Bigwig, it seems you still exist! I wasn't a member of the forums when the last mod was in planning but I lurked. I read back the whole old thread today, and it looks like you made a map of some sort as well as other stuff. Maybe you could post them again so we have something to go on.

By the way, any ideas on important features we should implement into the mod?

This, i think is the first time i have ever posted on any forum. odd. So my first will be to say: this mod needs to be made. sadly i know nothing about modding. I think the time frame suggested will work and large scale battles like Last Days would be the way to go... Wish i could offer more than support.

There was one suggestion in the old thread that I really liked that the mod be set in the North, beyond the Wall. I think that would be a great idea, for several reasons:

1. Keeps the mod small in scope. As many people have mentioned, M&B isn't a great engine choice for huge, epic-scale battles, so I think the southern war is a bit large to tackle. North of the Wall, on the other hand, is a perfectly lore-appropriate setting for M&B's small-scale skirmishes.

2. Since only a small portion of the books focus on the events beyond the Wall, it gives you a lot of room for creative interpretation of the story. The Wall is also one of the most "fantasy" portions of ASOIAF's setting, which opens up a number of interesting possibilities, like monsters (wights and Others) and magic items. Since M&B models can now be animated with new skeletons, it should soon be possible to make giants and mammoths as well, as soon as hitbox scaling is implemented.

3. Minimum overhead in terms of new models. Neither the Night's Watch or the Wildlings are big on fancy insignias and ornamentation, so a lot of the vanilla models would be appropriate for them.

The biggest problem I can see would be how to implement wights and the Others, both of which are most vulnerable to fire and obsidian weapons. Is it possible to make it so enemies are only damaged by certain types of weapons?

Best thing to do is not mod by committee, especially at the beginning. Either learn to script and just do it or take grocat up on his offer and get the basics in. Put out a basic one page early design document for any helpers and get it done asap. Having a download to work on will increase the amount of help you get. The details can be debated later, they arent as important as momentum.

Many of the mods here dont get past the discussion stage. Its a bad phase and you need to get past it quickly.

indeed, well said. I will quote you on this in future. The problem is of course that the design section is often the funest part.

I e-mailed Hobbie, who seemed to have gotten something done. For now, I suggest we get a map done, which I think Bigwig started. I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to mod in two different factions (for now) on the vanilla version, be they Lannister+Stark or Night's Watch+Wildlings. Just substitutes for the names for now. Grocat, do you think you could do that, or anybody else? Once that happens we can combine it with Bigwig's map, were we to do the Riverlands, make a new map for Beyond The Wall, or add new factions for a starter.

I'm also working on a map right now starting at the wall and going north, based on a map from amoka.net. When I'm done I'll bring it here.

One thing I'd like to get right off the bat is the map. I was thinking of expanding the scope to include a portion of the North, from King's Landing to maybe Deepwood Motte. I say this because The Last Days did a similar thing, and ever since then I realized that the North has a lot of potential, especially with the Ironmen. I would probably have to remake the map however, which I don't really mind since I had a few problems with my other one. If this proves to be too big, however, we could always use the old one.

Like I mentioned, I'm doing a Wall-North map right now. A problem I'm having, strangely, is that it won't let me rename something if there is a "w" in the name. This is my first time, but any suggestions? Also, is there any way to make a mountain range without manually making the mountains? Thanks

Good news. I talked to Hobbie, and he's going to get everything he had off his laptop by friday. We have a foundation!

I'd love to see this happen. I will help in any small ways I can, though I'm not proficcient in the technical stuff. However, I'm a devout fan of the books - just finished rereading the Feast for Crows today, as it happens - and can easily fact-check, set up who's on what side, etc. I can also PR this when we have some graphics to work on, as visual marketing is the profession I am training for. (Against ASOIAF boards, discussion groups and the like, that is) I can also proof-read and beta test  (One of my well-known gripes is people who don't tie up their unit names, typos, jumble story- and timelines, etc, in mods and games)

Ahem...once I know precisely what part of the world you want to be included I can start.  Actually...I'll probably have to wait till tomorrow before I start.  As it is late and I am tired.

Well, Bigwig's map is the riverlands, mine is beyond the wall, and who knows what Hobbie's is. For now, Grocat, do you think you could just start with the Native version of M&B and add different factions? Stark, Lannister, Greyjoy, Tyrell, Stannis, and Renly for now? Don't worry about troops or insignias for now. I'm not sure, would that be too hard for now?

I'm glad someone is trying to make this again. I would love to help, but you probably don't need concepts (there are plenty of illustrations everywhere..) and as someone said there won't be a need for many new textures. I like the books very much (I heaven't read FfC because it still isn't out in czech...bah..) and I wish you well
GLaHF

I wonder how hard it would be to make different house banners, as well as some individualized helmets for different heroes (dog helm for Sandor Clegane, goat helm for Vargo Hoat, antlers for Renly, etc)?

Can we make a list of characters we want for companions?
I'd say:
Barristan Selmy (Anybody but Lannister)
Sandor/Gregor Clegane (Lannister)
Vargo Hoat+Bloody Mummers (Anybody)
Berric Dondarion+Thoros of Myr+BwB (Starks)
Brienne of Tarth (Renly or Stark)
Loras Tyrell (Renly, Stark, Lannister)
Dagmer Cleftjaw (Greyjoy)
Bronn (Lannister)

Anybody else we can think of?
