Also any animals that are wights, as at the Fist. But of course they aren't living.

That's presumably because either the Other that was killed there was a low-ranking one, or the Ice Spiders have gone extinct or something, possibly during the last time the Others rose.  Or they just aren't found/tamed/made yet, since the Others can't really do much except kill Black Watch and Wildings.

Hey Sparehawk, thanks again for the replies and your openness  to suggestions.

I've been playing alot of your 0.4 mod lately and I agree with your schedule for changes.  I think the most important fixes for v0.4.1 are game play issues.  Specifically, fixing Dornish cavalry and town elders in villages.  Right now, it's not really possible to repair your relations with villages you've taken over after raiding and pillaging them, hence new villages don't offer recruits.  As for balance issues with Greyjoys and Others... Right now, I always play the mod with those two raiding groups turned off since the beginning.  I find that without raiders interfering, the whole land concentrates more on war.

I think the Dornish cavalry and town elders are the only real big game bugs in the current mod.  Anything else you decide to change/fix is just icing on this big, fat, delicious cake!

ok, I'm still reviewing the modding documentation but am playing around with the files a little bit.  I know Spearhawk is working on things like this but I wanted to try it out and made the following changes....

ITEMS_KINDS.TXT

following items no longer have merchandise flag
- ice greaves, ice armor, ice helmet, ice blade

added uniques
- Rhaegar's Gauntlets, Rhaegar's Greaves, Rhaegar's Helmet

TROOPS.TXT

Castle Black
- Strong Belwas = Benjen Stark
- Grey_Worm = Qhorin Half-Hand
- Jorah Mormont = Lord Mormont
- Pierre-Matthau = Donal Noye
- Training Ground Master = Ser Alliser Thorne
- Tavernkeeper - Three-Finger Hobb
- removed the default item (sunglasses from the BoW mod) from the castle black chest

I was having trouble modifying the faces so some of those aren't great
I was also thinking about trying to add some names to Kingdom_#_Daughter, Wife, Lady, etc.....

CONVERSATION.TXT
- changed Benjen Stark, Lord Mormont, Qhorin Half-Hand, Donal Noye, Ser Alliser Thorne

Anyway, if people are interested they can download this file, I'd suggest backing up your original ones

Wow module development is just flying now!
Keep it up guys, and I'd just like to say that small 'cosmetic' things like snow in the correct villages really do a lot to further immersion. Sure it's not a new overarching addition (e.g. boats) but it really helps you feel like you're in Westeros instead of somewhere north of Wercheg.

The factions would ideally be like this:
1. The North, with the Twins and Riverrun.
2. The West, with King's Landing.
3. Highgarden/The Reach, led by Renly Baratheon.
4. Dragonstone and The Narrow Sea, with the Stormlands, led by Stannis Baratheon.
5. Dorne.
6. The Iron Islands.
7. A neutral Vale.

If there will be only 7 factions, and 5 of them are "major players" while one more is completely neutral, then my idea about 2 types of AI will lose all significance. The only faction remained is Dorne and there is no sence to make it the only "support faction".

So, what should be the Dorne's strategic goal in that case?

If you'll found a good answer, it could incline me to 7-factions variant.

a) Version 0.4.1. I'm working on it now and plan to release it in coming weekend or somewhen on next week. It will include new textures for White Walkers and their armor, different textures for banners inside castles, renamed NPCs in Castle Black, fix for Dornish Horsemen and Night's Watch upgrades line. Ah, and missed village elders too. And giving Harrenhal to Slynt. Maybe a couple of minor changes as bonus...

As for Night's Watch upgrades...
Right now I've made this renamings:
slave_driver -> Night's Watch Ranger
slave_hunter -> Night's Watch Senior Ranger
slave_crusher -> Night's Watch First Ranger
slaver_chief -> Night's Watch Commander

However, I myself don't like this scheme too much.
Can anyone offer an alternative scheme?

I've thinked about it too, but I'm still not sure how they are used in game...

Correct me if I´m wrong here, but didn´t some of the others ride wight-horses?

Merentha 说:
The myths say that the Others ride giant ice-spiders.

Well, in that case I assume that there could be wights-horses for Undead Night's Watch Brothers and Ice Spiders for Great Other's Servants.

...If there will be proper models and textures, of course...

The Rangers really are the top shelf of the Night's Watch, with the First Ranger and the Commander being titles conferred on a single person, so I can see why that doesn't quite fit.

Maybe something like:

manhunter - Night's Watch Recruit
slave_driver - Night's Watch Brother
slave_hunter - Night's Watch Huntsman
slave_crusher - Night's Watch Veteran
slaver_chief - Night's Watch Ranger ?

I'm agreed about First Ranger and Commander, but completely disagreed about common rangers.
Structure

The Night's Watch is broken down into three main groups:
 • Rangers. The rangers are tasked with actively defending the wall and riding out to face the Watch's enemies, including the lawless wildlings as well as the mysterious inhuman Others. They are led by the First Ranger.
 • Builders. The builders are responsible for maintaining the Wall. They are led by the First Builder.
 • Stewards. The stewards handle the day-to-day running of the Wall. They are led by the Lord Steward.

• Every man in the Watch walks the wall, and all are expected to bare steel in its defense, but the rangers are the true fighting men of the Watch (I: 372)
 • The order of the builders provide masons and carpenters, miners, and woodsmen (I: 372, 373)
 • The order of the stewards keep the Watch alive. They hunt and farm, tend horses, milk cows, gather firewood, cook meals, make clothing, and bring supplies from the south (among other like things) (I: 376)
 • The "ranger roads" are game trails and stream beds which the brothers of the Watch who are ranging north use to lead them deeper into the north beyond the Wall (II: 153)
 • Some wildlings have actually aided the rangers in the past (II: 260, 261)
 • Rangers have been known to lay with wildling women in the past (II: 261)
 • Each patrol on the Wall is made up of four men, two rangers and two builders. The builders note cracks, melting, and other structual problems, while the rangers look for signs of foes. The patrols ride mules because of their surefootedness, specially trained for the duty (III: 29:cool:
So, Rangers are not "the top shelf", they are only one of Watch's inner orders, mostly oriented to fighting and patroling.
Am I wrong?

How about that scheme:

manhunter - Night's Watch Recruit
slave_driver - Night's Watch Brother
slave_hunter - Night's Watch Ranger
slave_crusher - Night's Watch Veteran
slaver_chief - Night's Watch Senior Ranger

?

...By the way...

Just thinked about it...

Is it possible to call Night's Watch Brother a man who leaved the Wall, serving as mercenary and taking part in civil war across Westeros?

Seems to me much better than the previous scheme. As of still calling someone hired as mercenary "night watch brother", it makes little sense as they would be more akin to that guy Ned behead at the beginning of the first book.

If you're talking about having a brother of the night's watch leaving the wall, then no. They swear for life, and deserters would be outlaws. Of course, if they were to get far enough south and managed to find different clothes they could become mercenaries, but then why make them special?

It would fit nicely if there were a few (rare) deserters from the watch in the wildling parties roaming the north, but beyond that, I wouldn't move them away from the wall, unless one could include the 'wandering crows'(the brothers from the watch searching for fresh recruits in the south, like Yoren, or whatever his name was), which, while it would be a nice touch, seems to me as if it would be difficult to script. (Then again, what do I know? I don't have any idea of what it would take to make them  ).

Spearhawk - here's an updated logo if you need it.  I tried to make the colors match the main M&B screen a little better....

this looks good to me.  I might say "Night's Watch Veteran Ranger" just to make it clear there are 3 levels of Rangers?  Also, I know technically the Night's Watch shouldn't be south of the wall and be hired mercenaries.  But we will have to take some liberties with this Mod, and considering we are going to have Others south of the wall, I think the Lord Commander gave permission for them to join our party and hurt them down.
