A silly question on companions....

I started a new game this morning and was rather excited with what I saw at first. Not only did I have two smallish groups of sea raiders right outside Sargoth which meant easy(ish) gear for me possibly. The other part that made me excited was Nizar who I hate later on but love to see starting out was hanging out in the tavern.

Why did I love seeing him in Sargoth? Free horse! Well.. Better horse than the Swayback lump I was given anyway... Also meant free saber which I usually love but found me a nice mace cheap in the shop so using that instead.

This lead me to wondering something... Anyone else ever get excited to see a certain companion right off the bat? And more specifically anyone excited about that because they get to take something from that companion? Also would have been happy with Lezalit, but only because of his training.

Well, Nizar is the big one to steal his horse as you mentioned.  Other than that, if it's someone I intend to take with me I might hire them and immediately release them so that the traveler will help me find him later, especially if they join for free.

Hmm that is interesting. And potentially useful... I love having Matheld later in the game (early too but..) but I tend to rely on Jeremus early game for his innate med skills. Never thought of picking up Matheld and dropping her right away so I could find her later on.

I tend to like to see Jeremus--it always helps to have a medic in the party early on.  Same with Nizar: free (or at least, cheap) horse!  I make better use of it, anyway; he just rides right into the thick of battle, where he's immediately unhorsed, savaged, and rendered unconscious.

Also, Ymira: the quicker I get her, the earlier I can start working on her stats and molding her into anything I want her to be!  (Plus, like Jeremus, she's free!)

I tend to pick up Marnid early, too: he doesn't fit in my preferred party but 1) he's free, 2) I can send him out to farm RtR immediately, 3) I'll pick him up occasionally and use him to scout out the Nords (who usually hang on to Sargoth for a good long while), and 4) if and when I get a kingdom of my own, he's my minister (as I usually run female characters) and, as noted, it's easy to find him through the travelers if I've already hired him previously.

I usually use Artiminer (did I spell that right? Probably not...) as my minister... I don't know why but when I look at him I just cannot help but think he mid-upper management not on the ground type of guy.

For me, it depends on which of the three versions I'm doing....

For one, it's really just finding someone like Lezalit, Nizar, Artimmener, or the like early as having someone helps.

Another is the opposite of those like Firentis, Jeremus, Ymira, and the like so....again....to have someone to help (and in Ymira's case, mold her as needed).

The last one....um.....I cheated for it via Module System   She's coded to always appear in Reyvadin first, which is where I always go to (head-canon reasons).  ....and by she, I mean a character I made (amongst others for that specific file).
