Many games have different types of Save systems.

Take Mount and Blade for example.

It allows only one save slot per character. It does allow the choice of saving any time you like, or saving only when you quit. But thats it. One save per character.

Now, my position is that this limits the enjoyment a player can have, and here is my reasoning:

The key point is choice. It forces players to play a certain way, often unnecessarily

I am not saying that such a method is wrong, merely that it restricts freedom.

The advantages of a multiple slot system is just that, freedom. If players prefer to have only one savegame, then they can restrict their saving to one slot. If players want multiple backups, then that option is available.

Certainly, many will argue in favor of one method over the other. That is not my point. I am just saying that with the multiple slot system, BOTH sides can have their cake, and eat it to.

multiple savegames per hero. Because it's annoying to lose all your work when your savegame gets corrupted.

A classic unlimited amounts of saves (list-style) that is perhaps sorted per hero that you have to make it easy to see what save is what...

The realistic setting should remain tho as well...I like to have that option too for a more challenging gameplay :p

I think 5 more save slots per hero would already be great. Leave the current savesystem too and perhaps call it quicksave.

This is interesting.

At least 7 have voted for the one slot system, yet none have posted why that system is more preferable.

If you're really concerned about corrupted data, just make a copy of your savegames folder and put it somewhere safe. Do it regularly, and then if your savegame becomes corrupted, you'll have a backup.

I prefer the one-slot system in this game - there's no real need for more. The 6-character limit is another thing, though; I'd quite like a few more slots available for different characters.

I just sort of like the difficulty of the game. Multiple save slots would mitigate that. Of course, no one is forcing me to use them, so I'll be more pragmatic.

Armagan has n developer units of work he can do. I want to maximize n's allocation to R (the set of all features I would use), and minimize n's allocation to Rbar (the set of all features I would not use).

So, while I cannot come up with a good reason against it. I can be scientificallly selfish.

This could also be used as a round-about method of increaseing the number of "save slots".

I like the single save as fitting to the gritty feel of the game. You still can do a foolish thing (let's see how my brand new army does against those Dark Knights), and get back to the save, but you cannot build complex storylines. You have to live with the consequence of your actions, which improves the inmersive effect.
