A quick question about horses

Since my search brought me 400 results, i thought i'd just ask. I've noticed that sometimes certain troops come mounted, and other times unmounted. Is it the case that by having spare horses in my inventory, my troops (not heroes) are able to use them? Or is it just random that sometimes they have a horse and sometimes not (the example in question is a sword sister).

Also do heroes horses suffer becoming 'lame' if they are taken down?

Well first, no, horses in your inventory don't give your troops mounts in battle. All they do is reduce your carry weight burden. I'm not sure, but i think that with certain units its a little bugged whether or not they're given mounts. Footmen for instance have about a 15% chance of being mounted...which doesn't really make sense. And secondly, no, your hero's mounts cannot be killed or lamed.

Hired blades are often without mounts, I think it is to reflect their non-homogenous mercenary nature

I was under the impression that since your troops get a certain percentage of the loot from a battle they would get horses as part of that? And if they don't have a horse, it's because you have yet to capture any.

Well, your troops don't actually get the loot or anything. Its just kind of another way of saying "you have lots of men, so you don't deserve as much" is all.

no!they just have a chance to be mounted or unmounted!

footman is a mounted units!

sword sister have a chance to be unmounted! yes it is!

Iv seen regular bandits be unmounted AND mounted at the same time, I really dont know the equasion but some units have a chance to be mounted (not peasents)

By the way, I have the following question: If I kill a mounted enemy, and I use the "mount up" command for my followers, will any of them try to mount the now rider-less horse?

Yes they will if their riding skill is enough for that particular horse. But mounts acquired during the battle will not stay after the battle. I mean you will not see this horse in your loot screen at the end of the battle. Finally I do not advise to use "mount horses" command, game will probably crash. There is a known bug about this

I see... thanks for telling me the bug, I NEVER heard of it! Thanks goodness I never used it.

Use the unofficial editor and poke around.

Some units have horses checked as part of the required items and hence are always mounted.

Sword sisters should be always mounted in the newest version. They were on foot earlier.

Anyhow, they are pretty good on foot as they have xbows.
