A question on tournament elimination...

I may have asked this once long long ago and forgotten but I couldn't find it and my curiosity has been piqued on it.

What exactly determines who is eliminated from a tournament?

I've been in tournaments where I had a huge melee like 4x teams with 8 people each and I was the last one standing second to last one standing and I get eliminated. Other tournaments I get knocked out 5 seconds out of the gate and I move on.

Furthermore I have never been knocked out twice in a single tournament and not been eliminated. However the NPCs seem to play by different rules in this regard.

Klethi for example in the last tourney at Sargoth I participated in. Poor dear was on the wrong team for every single round. She was knocked out every single round, yet she constantly advanced.

You advance to the next round (even if you get rekt) when you knock out a certain number of enemy's. You have to knock out 1 enemy for the 1st round, 2 for the second and third. After that im not sure how it works.
