A question about weaponry

First of all, I love M&B and have been hooked ever since I got it.

But lately I have been wanting a new weapon, I currently have a Heavy Battle Axe 2h, it does 53c I think.

The only problem is, I like swords...plain and simple, I prefer swords over axes.

But I have noticed that all 2h or 1/2h swords are weaker than the axes, or so they seem.

My question is, what does the 53c represent and if I change my weapon to a 43c, how drastically will my damage be affected?

53c does 53 cutting damage, 43c does 43 cutting damage.
there are tons of factors effecting the damage (damage type such as c(utting), p(iercing), b(lunt) and armour)  but in theory your enemy losses 53 hp with axe and 43 hp with sword.

Keep in mind there are other factors that can different one weapon from another.
Damageamount
Damagetype
Length
Speed
Style
In which weapongroup it belongs (1h; 2h; polearm etc)
EDIT: Which attack can be done with it. (can it only thrust, can it be swung, can I thrust and swing?...)

Yeah, what doomjake said.

Damage isn't everything, I mean...I use the exact same weapon you do but I love it

Sometimes 1handed weapons are greater for their speed and just how short they are. If you have full damage and good A.I combat turned on then hitting someone with the handle of your axe sure as hell doesn't do 53 cut damage, just 1 or 0 blunt.

Thanks for the replies guys!

I just have one more question to ask

Does each city's stores carry different things than others, or is it just randomized?

If it carries specific weapons, where is the best place to buy a 2h or a Bastard sword (1 or 2h)?

To elaborate on what some mentioned, I believe one particular difference between a twohanded axe and a twohanded sword is that if you are hitting the opponents at the ideal distance for both types of weapon then the axe is going to do more damage. Where as if hitting them at less then the ideal distance, such as being really close with a long weapon, with each weapon the sword will do better since its sharp edge extends all the way down to the hilt.

the only thing that i can add to what has been said here is that sometimes (particuarly in seiges) you want something with a short length. if an opponent gets too close to you then your 2 handed weapon will not be doing its full damage. someimes a reach of 60 is all you need (i keep a short sword for these occasions).
oh, and a Balanced Battle Axe does the highest damage of 54c and is slightly faster than a Heavy Battle Axe. For raw power you can't beat them.

Weaponry and Armour is random, I think horses are too, but Goods can be slightly specific. For example, buying cheese in Yalen or fish in Tihr etc.

the blade of a 2H sword is much longer(greater damage-dealing surface), and the sword is much longer and faster than the axe. I personally prefer swords over axes for these exact reasons.

My top 3 favrate wepons

1. Balcanced iron staff
This little dandy is a great weapon it does blunt damage so it knocks enemies out for prisoners. Blunt damage goes right threw chain mail armor. You can lance with it and it work well in a foot battle.

2. Balanced heavy club with spike.
It is fast and hits hard can me used either 1h or 2h if you swing it does blunt damage good vs chain if you thrust it does piercing damage good vs plate.

3. Master work Strongbow
Faster then the long bow on only 3 points less damage per hit then the warbow

Damage Per Second

A sword with less damage, say 24c, but if it hits twice as fast as a weapon with a 40c, it does 8 more damage per second than the larger weapon.

Dps is very hard to quantify in this game because you aren't just swinging your weapon nonstop till they die typically. And even if you were theres allot of wasted damage where you only needed to hit them for say 5 more damage but you hit them for 60 instead which is very inefficient in a dps calculation but is unavoidable in this game. If a onehander that swings much faster then a twohander but often leaves the target with a sliver of health left so that you have to swing a second time then it would have been less time consuming to have had a slower twohander that could do the job in one swing.
