A question about Fiefs

So I'm a rather influential lord with the southern empire with 3 cities, clan tier 4, and a large army. Every so often I enhance my empire by besieging cities and taking them for us. My question lies in what comes after. First off, why is it that when you take a city you're almost never in the running to be named lord of it?

My real question though, is if I voted a lord I disliked. (I disliked all of them but these same lords got the pick of the last 5 fiefs including the city I chose, which is also kinda dumb so I picked one to support through it all). What I want to know is why am I losing the "custody" battles for the fiefs that I clearly have overwhelming majority support for? I tried to enact me as the ruler of that city with 84% in my favor and still I lose it every time. Is there a skill to level for this that I'm missing? This happened earlier with a castle I had majority on as well.

I know I'm being critical and I sound mean but I really do love this game (as I did warband) and I'm just tryin' to learn its inner workings. Thanks in advance!

The faction ruler always has final say, and I've seen multiple times where it was a 100 to 0 vote, and the 0 got the vote (very weird), and after a time he likes to hog, especially if a faction begins to snowball, unfortunately I think the fief problem isn't top priority right now, but I'm sure it is being looked into. I'm hoping, like everyone else, that the only people eligible for taking a fief are the people who conquered it, which would incentivize the entire faction to deploy, rather than half of them do the heavy lifting and the other half reap the rewards for no work

See I sort of agree with that, but I still think it should be up to a vote for who gets it. Just the leader of the army should be in the running. It doesn't really make any sense otherwise.
So would you say that if I was to entice the faction ruler to absolutely love me unconditionally with my war atrocities at hand, that that could help my chances greatly?

Can't hurt to try?
