a pinch of music

Put short...

Here's some music that I've been making lately...

This is not a mod. It's more of a music pack (yet it's not even a pack since, eventually, I'll be adding more stuff), rather than something you could just unpack in your modules folder. This is for any modder out there, who'd consider it worthy or contributing to their projects...Or anyone who just enjoys that kind of music...

Not a great number so far, but eventually that'd change...Depending on the interest, feedbacks and most of all - my lazyness...

I'm fully aware, that the quality is not as professional as people are used to when it comes to orchestral/movie-score-alike music, but then again, like many here, this is just my hobby and I'm doing it for fun. Of course, I've tried to take it to it's best, but that doesn't always seem to end up as I would like...Sound quality and composition wise. Not to mention, I'm not Mr Mozart.

So...If you use the tracks, giving credit is not mandatory, however, do me a favour and send me a message about it if my music finds it's place in your project (I'm curious...)

Lastly, I believe it's understadable, that any one of the tracks, may NOT be used for ANY kind of commercial purposes. Building upon them, editing, or transforming them without my knowledge, or claiming them as yours, would not appear as something I, or any lawyer, would tolerate. If the need of any of that occurs, please, contact me beforehand.

Thanks would have to go to:

Rejenorst - feedbacks, suggestions...and of course, putting up with me for quite a while.

Adorno - a few (but quite helpful as it turned out) tips and solutions.

Cheers guys!

And with formalities out of the way...

I can really recommend Hairfree's music. He's seriously good at making subtley epic melodies which are easy to listen to and fit perfectly with most scenes. Unfortunately I havn't mastered subtle tones in music and for anyone who has heard my stuff the difference is that my stuff is rather course/rough with sharp and repetative tones whereas Hairfree's stuff really blends well.

In fact my dad heard one of his tracks today and was like that's great, when it comes to my music I think tehy leave the room hahaha.

Great job mate, I havn't heard all of these yet and will have a listen when I get back to the Phils.

That's great man! Only listened to one track (The Messenger) but I love the style.

I'll listen the others up tomorrow, but I may just be interested in including it in HYW, which I've been wanting to get new music for.

Keep it up!

Hey, sweet some music to listen to.

Very nicely done Hairfree! Nice melodies, nice flow, ambience and good use of counter melody. You have a natural inclination for music. Keep plugging away.

Don't sell yourself short there mate. The term i prefer is agressive.

Thanks for letting us listen Hairfree.

I believe we've discussed those matters before, so I'm not going to try prove you wrong again. Stop swinging your modesty around, 'cause you might hit my ego.

And actually, the rest of the tracks sound somewhat different from that one, so I hope you haven't built too much of an opinion from that one alone. As for including any of those wherever - sure thing!

Well, thank you, Pagan! Now all I need to do is find out what "a counter melody" is and it'd be all sweet  I have no background in music, so that comming from you, after hearing what you are capable of...What can I say? I feel flattered!

Some more are on the way. So, whenever I sober up from celebraing, I'll get around finishing them.

hey, i am self taught as well, so don't fret. I can neither write nor read music, nor do i know what any of the notes or chords that i play are called. I just know where they are to be found, and that is what's most important when making music.

And to save you a search on counter-melody. A counter-melody is a melody that plays behind/beside the main melody, kind of a companion. It can enhance and compliment, or deride and make course, depending on the effect your after Think of a sword with a snake twirled around it. on their own they are a snake and a sword, but together, a cool tattoo. Hows that?

Thanks for the clarifiaction, Pagan.

And by the way, two more tracks added (top of the list).

I like it a lot, especially the 'Mountains' - nice and smooth

Who knows, you might even compose a whole soundtrack.
Perhaps you should pack them in one zip file instead of all these downloads...

Thank you, Adorno.

For a whole soundtrack, I'll need a particular concept. Something to keep in mind while "composing" (I'm an amateur and doing it all by ear...So "composing" is a strong word for it). Right now, it's just making random stuff and throwing it in for whoever sees fit wherever, to use. One of the reasons, I haven't packed these in a .rar/.zip...yet. They're not really connected to each other. Some day, perhaps...

Am at the net cafe and have finally settled into my apartment so am going through your tracks, have heard two so far but am having download difficulties, I'll be in and out of here over the next few days so will keep posting:

- Borders: Great atmosphere, love the drum cadence in the background and the choir is a great touch. This track feels like the aftermath of a battle or a vamera pan along the mountain borders hehe

Come on, mate, I'm impatient to hear what you'd come up with using that Malaia thingie...Haven't heard anything tribal-ish from you lately

-A Village Awakens: This has a really nice tune to it and a nice slow soft sound that fits the title well. I thought I heard one or two notes slightly off but that didn't really impact the...

Lost words?

Thanks for mentioning those notes were off. I haven't noticed. Probably 'cause my headphones aren't the latest miracle of electronics  But piano shows all flaws. Fixed those...as well as could.

Anyway...

I thought I'd bump this with a couple more tracks and adding names to the links, so people would actually know what they download, or at least get an idea about a track from the name.

Added "Riders" - finished in about half an hour, so don't expect anything special; and "Northern Dance" - gathered some leftovers together and though it came out kind of weird, I still thought it might find it's use.

Enjoy

(or not )

I love it! It is pefect epic m&b music
But northern dance is not a dance.
You might want to call it Journey to the North or Crossing the North Border r something
It built veryyy nicely that song

Thanks

Nords do dance with axes you know...The rhytm and melody should be weird after a few screams due to chopped off limbs  Anyway, I've always had a problem coming up with decent "labels". Names are there, just so I don't call the links "tracks 1", "track 2" and so on...Never put too much thought into 'em.

*Double-post removed due to irrelativity...But as it goes, here's another

A couple more added - "Forest" and "War"

Sir, if you don't mind, I'm so going to be using these for the Neolithic Mod.  They're freaking sweet, I've been searching high and low for good alternatives to the native stuff.

They're really just subtle, and just powerful enough to be exactly what I'm looking for.  The slightly tribal vibe running through all of them, with the woodwinds on top of that, is very nice.  Love 'em all.

Also, your profile pic looks like my father.  Its freaking me out.

'War' develops nicely - very narrative. The opening flute is really good.

"War" being narrative...I'm guessing that's a good thing(?) A bit repetative maybe...It was intended as a marching tune of some sort, but it developed in a different direction in the end. That, in the opening, is a "single" french horn (develops into the whole  french horn section later), and since it's not easily recognisable as a brass instrument, I guess my lack-of-good-mastering-skills issue hasn't gone for the better :???: Nonetheless, thank you.

Be my guest, Zarthas  . Personlly, I'd recommend Rejenorst's music (rejenorst.com/music/music.html) if I'm looking for a more tribal ambience, but of course, that's your choice.

We could be related, since it looks just like my uncle.
