A New Mod "Huge Mod"? Mag 7+Sea Raider+Arena Expan

Users who are viewing this thread

Hi there,
I tried the "Sea Raider Mod" and the" Arena expansion Mod" and the only thing I can say is WOW!!!!!
GREAT WORK!
I also like the "Mag 7 Mod" too and there is the problem, I can only play ONE Mod a time :(
Can anyone create a "Meaga Mod" with Mag 7 + Sea Raider + Arena Expansion???
This would be great!!!!
Or can someone give me some instructions, so I would try it by myself....

Sounds good to me. The Module Builder source for my Arena Expansion mod is available.

The Sea Raider mod doesn't have source available at the moment, but as it was made with the Module Builder scripts it's a good merge candidate.

Mag-7 hasn't been converted over to Module Builder scripts yet by Ancientwanker (which understandably will take some time and work), but once it's converted over it shouldn't be too much work to merge them and I'm all for it.

Thanks. You should try Mag-7, it's the biggest and best mod available so far.
What, better than my Arena Expansion mod?!? Yeah, mine is a bit limited in scope to contend with Mag-7. :)

Andonai, I was thinking exactly the same. Although there are a few complete mods around, I want them all at the same time!!. A lot more mods will be out in the near future and then it will be an even greater problem. Choosing only one mod at a time and creating different characters for each one is not good at all. I think modding community, and even Armagan himself should consider this problem and there must be a systematic approach to this. Different approaches can be like this;

1. Every mode maker would release his source files and a few people would dedicate themself to manually combine these mods which is compatible with each other.
2. Someone, maybe Armagan, would prepare a special "mod combiner" software. This software would get the source files for different mods, determine whether they are compatible with each other and combine them. I don't know the possibility or feasibility of this, it would be good for sure.

Hey, don't say I should do this myself. I hate coding and other software stuff. It gives me headaches. That's why I specifically rejected software engineering job offers and working in the electronic hardware department of my institute.

@barbados
I like the 1st way a bit more. There could really be some big Mod Exchange Project project with a "high court" to decide which mod fits and which doesn't. :lol:
Morrowind did it the second way and it aside from creating an internet database with thousands of quest which made the game quite lively, it was really terribly disbalanced, as every mod creator wanted to include his powerful selfmade&modeled item to his selfscripted screwn-up kill the caverat & save the princess mod. Besides it leaded to conflicts between the mods

Smaller mods will be able to mix together but the larger mods, especially those with themes or certain historical flavors, wont be likely to mix.

Mag-7 has no real theme though, just a collection of features so I wouldnt mind combining with the arena mod or whatnot. At the moment its not really easily done though as its not done with the mod tools. I could do it but it would just be a pain to update as mount and blade was updated. After I get a LOTR mod up and running Ill look at translating Mag-7 to the mod tools format.

1. Every mode maker would release his source files and a few people would dedicate themself to manually combine these mods which is compatible with each other.

This would be difficult. Combining some mods would take as long as to make one of the mods itself.

My idea is that people who want to make new mods start off with the game files of older existing mods like Mag-7. Just edit the Mag-7 files. Then the next person who wants to add a mod takes that second mod and edits that. The problem there is that it needs coordination and people must know who is doing what at the current time.

hi there,
it´s good to see, that I am not alone with my "Problem" :D
@barbaros
I think you hit the point...
more good unthemed mods, more problems for us
Argh, I see me sitting in front of the m+b menu screen, the mouse in the right hand, tattering like an old man, because i have to make the hardest decision of the day...
which mod should I play?
:D

I believe the first Solution is in the moment the "easiest"
Sure, it would be nice, if we have a Prog that combines the mods or choosen parts ot them by a mouse click, but it´s work to create the Prog and keep it up to date.

@ancientwanker
It´s a good point too, yes greater mods and themed mods are hard work, but I believe, in the moment we all need only the nice extra features from the smaller mods....
...later :twisted:

@evrery amazing modder out there , if you used the mod tool format, PLEASE, I beg you on my knees, release your source file!

You must be using the royal 'we' because Im looking forward to the themed mods.

@ancientwanker
oh, it´s perhaps a misunderstanding....
".... later :twisted:" = the meaning of this line is, for today and the next week I will be satisfied (and I think others too) if, we can combine the smaler mods;
BUT when this ist done and themed mods are out , then to combine / edit these is the next step.
I don´t know any themed mod, which is already playable, but I am "green" and so this means nothing.

If you completly uninterested in combining smaler mods or cusomize them, in this case I used the "royal we" :D

actualy, i personaly enjoy your arena mod way more, the maf 7 i find in some ways to be a bit of a pain, it doesnt realy add anything new or innovative other than some extra hero npc's, but then again i didnt find them very useful, in fact, it means to have them all with you youd have to have a rather high leadership skill...which is kindve a waste of points since i have been able to easily beat the biggest war parties with myself, marnid and borcha, and at most 20 knights, mercs, or sword sisters, yet the 6 npc's u get in mag 7 seem to take forever to level up cause for some reason they seem to even get their butts kicked by freakin river pirates even though they are more than high enough to be able to own them...but i love your arena mod, it makes the arena as much fun as fighting in normal battles only with less experiance but much higher monetary rewards which is good if ur high level but short on cash, now it would be freaking awsome if the arena mod worked with mag 7...unfortunately it doesnt, so ive found myself just playing native with your arena mod,lol... i also dont realy like the searaiders mod...but maybe thats just me...so if combined mods did come out there should be multiple versions, or have them all seperate but able to all fit together so the person could dl the ones he/she wants and leave out the ones they dont...

Have you actually played with the latest version of Mag-7 (0.31)? Because there actually are lot of small improvements to the game everywhere in the mod, not only the NPC's. Just to mention few improvements:

1) Variation to the travelling parties on the map (adds leaders to the groups, for starters)
2) The advancement tree(?) of all troops has been altered.
3) Brigands have now become a joinable faction.
4) Item costs have been altered.
5) Experience has been increased in some faction quests (huge improvement, IMO)

Yeah, thats the third post in several days saying that mag-7 only adds some new heroes. I dont mind if people dont like it but I dont understand why they cant read the features list.

If it is any consolation ... I (and many others) absolutely love Mag-7.
