A litte confused about the Scots

So I've taken a liking to the Scots, just so much fun charging into battle with a big ass sword and 30 grumpy smelly men at your back.  Anyways, I've started getting some Clansmen foot warriors but their next upgrade is into a scout, which could have been gotten several units before.  So I have a few questions:

1- Is this scout better than the one I could have gotten from upgrading from a highlander?
2- What exactly is the best Scottish foot warrior?

Aye. Scouts are betta generally, depends though. Noblemen infantry are tha best.

Yes definitely, nobleman infantry (or nobleman in general) seem to do quite well in battle.
