A Limit to Raiding Parties?

In my most recent game I founded my own kingdom and have been recruiting lords, mostly because I don't want to have to pay for troops in 20 different castles, additionally I had some companions create raiding parties. Now the companions always seem to be happy even when I don't give them any property. So my question is wouldn't it be beneficial to recruit any companion I can and then immediately have them split off into a raiding party so my kingdom has more armies in it? Is there any downside to this? Thanks.

Companions need to be level 20 or more before you can give them fiefs, but yes, they are less of a pain in the arse than regular flavour lords. You can still turn them into raiding parties below level 20, but they tend to get their arse kicked if they haven't got a castle to run home to.

Usually when u have a kingdom u will also have a few villages with medium-high relations so a round of recruiting about 100 peasants can keep your newbie companion party relatively safe. If u got some points into training u can get them peasants trained to 2nd or 3rd tier troops in 3 -4 days and that makes for quite a strong raiding party for your companion.

If u can keep track of their location and ocasionaly meet with them and spend their earned skill points they can get to lvl 20 in notime.

Now, now, Daumor. For some people life's too short to be legible.

I'm just eating a really good sandwich. Pastrami and English mustard with rocket salad and perfectly fresh tomato.

Thanks for the advice about making the companion parties useful but I was also wondering about the opposite. Isn't sort of unfair that I can just recruit any companion I see and instantly have another patrol level party with no downside? Thanks again.

If you feel bad, then trigger the DK invasion... They are the downside to... well life mostly...

Don't know if that was directed at me or not. If it was then point taken. Stop the hating now?

Yes, in fact, it was. And thank you, and I will/have.

If you want other lords to join your kingdom, you can ask them. It's easier with a Spymaster as he will tell you which lords can be turned. When a faction is defeated, some lords will automatically join your faction anyway.

Do you need a city to turn other lords? Because i dont have a city and maybe thats why i dont get the option

Alright thanks, I remember having owned Wercheg before i patched my NE to the newest version but i don't remember having the ability to turn other lords to my side, do you need to be at peace with the faction their in?

And you don't have to own a city to recruit Lords. If you have two castles, you can approach the Lords who don't have any fiefs (see them in the Factions screen) and make them an offer. But a city means you can hire a Spymaster, and as well as telling you about weak enemy targets, he'll also tell you which Lords can be turned. However, if you have poor relations with that Lord, be prepared to become his errand boy for a while until you can convince him to join you.

Xoatl, next time you take a town, watch out for the 'Manage my Kingdom' menu...that's where all the fun happens.
