A Good Space Strategy Game

If you haven't played ANY 4X games before, go to gog.com and get Master of Orion 2. It runs well with modern computers, is accessible and introduces you quickly to the basics.

Ha, turns out you can get both MoO I and II for just six bucks now:

MoO I is just as good but the GUI is a bit more difficult to get into. Play both when you can. They are, arguably, the two best 4X games ever made, so there.

After them, you can try out Distant Worlds. While I haven't played it personally, I've heard many good things about it:

You don't have to micromanage as much as in typical 4X games, so there's that.

I am surprised no one has mentioned Aurora.

However, I will admit that it is frustratingly hard to even start out often running out of resources before een the first colony is operational.
I should do an AAR or a LP for Aurora. It's such a great game/simulation but yea, very difficult for newmodern players to get into.

Ha, turns out you can get both MoM I and II for just six bucks now:

MoI 1 is just as good but the GUI is a bit more difficult to get into. Play both when you can. They are, arguably, the two best 4X games ever made, so there.

WTF, you used a different letter each time, and both were wrong. "MoM I and II"? "MoI 1"? I think you mean MoO.  :???:

I think I was playing Master of Magic before writing that post. Dunno where MoI came from...
