Why do artillery officers not have pistols?

Why is it hard to get a one-shot kill with a pistol unless you are within melee distance, and why is the range so short?

And is the artillery in the game foot artillery, or horse artillery?

Thanks for any answers!

Why do artillery officers not have pistols? -Good question.

Why is it hard to get a one-shot kill with a pistol unless you are within melee distance, and why is the range so short? -Pretty realistic for a pistol of the era.

And is the artillery in the game foot artillery, or horse artillery? -As far as the game is concerned, it is Horse artillery as that's the only way it can be moved, if it's not already fixed.

Thanks for any answers!

To correct some points here (And someone correct me if I'm terribly wrong with either of my attempted points.):

The pistol cannot kill at longer ranges to balance out the fact that it can be reloaded on the move, and has the fastest reload time of all the firearms. Pistols during this era were just as deadly, though not as accurate, as the muskets and rifles. However, game-play does come before realism.

The artillery in-game is what would be considered foot artillery*, however the 'foot' artillery of the era would have used a team of two or more horses, whereas the game only uses one. (Likely due to engine limitations.)

(* The name 'foot artillery' is a misnomer. The artillery was drawn by horses, just as the 'horse artillery' was.)

yanyway like i said about the pistols..... it's napoleanic era... they aren't going to be accurate much at all. doesn't even need to be a game balance thing.

To correct a point about horse artillery, yes pulled by more horses, and all the artilleryists were mounted on the horse team.
Foot artillery is so called because the Artilleryists walk alongside/Behind the limber and horse.

We have 4 Slots in our Inventory.

Currently we have a Sword, a Spyglass, A lighter,

There is no space for a pistole.

If you want a pistole you need 2 slots.
One for the pistole itself and one for its ammo.

3+ 2 = 5, does not work
