A couple of questions

Just a few basic (I imagine) things. The beginner's guide speaks of getting a ship and going raiding. How can I raise enough money for a ship? It all gets spent on wages and buying cattle for those marshal tasks... also, how many men do I need before villages stop resisting? The most I've had is 53 so far, and they still resist.

Finally, is there a good way of training up men? Mine are awful and, as such, they never get better. My army is made up of Gebur Seaxna and Jutes, but every time they get to Kotsetlas, they are promptly killed in battle and I have to start over again (which reminds me, is there any way of cutting the size of lords' parties down? I don't really want to have over 10 consecutive battles in a row and fight for half an hour just to defeat one lord)

Thanks!

I mostly don't use Faction troops until I'm a very high level noble/ have my own kingdom. Until that point I find it best to just get Mercs, who seem expensive but are well worth the one time hit to the purse for the fact that they come almost as good as most factions highest tier troops.

I got a question, what would be the right kind of renown you should have before starting your own kingdom? I plan on waiting until it hits 2000 (Mostly because some of these 1000 man king armies scare me) whilst setting up enterprises in the mean time.

TweakMB can help you reduce the size of AI armies.  Not sure how well it will work with 1.393, but it worked as of 1.390.

I just started my kingdom at about 600 renown..then I instantly begged for piece from the people I took it from. Being that they were at war on several fronts, they gave in and were completely wiped out like a few weeks later, so all the other kingdoms forgot about me and just let me keep what I took

I have quite a large (I say that; it probably pales in comparison to those of most here) army now, but anther question has surfaced. What is the name of the feature in this mod which takes away my skill points, just for getting cut (through my mail?!) in battle? Its beginning to get annoying that every time I put a skill point into something, I go into a battle and lose it again. It's a bit of a waste. I turned off battle wounds, but that's had no effect.

Hmm, Sounds like it Could be the feature implemented in native where after two years injuries can cause damage to skills if you have turned off Brytenwalda battle wounding. Download TweakMB to turn off the Lose stats after two years feature.

It takes a while until your wounds are healed even after you switched the "wound" option off...
... and a good way of making money in the beginning is to be soldier in any Noble's army... you have no costs and get money and equipment. The disadvantage is, that it takes much longer to gain renown and experience...you only gain it through the very rare battles and tournaments once you entered the town, you are stationed in...

Do you mean be a mercenary? Or is it something different?

I've come up with something else. I managed to find some good trading posts and got enough money together for a ship! "Great" I thought, "time to raid Ireland!". Alas, my "loot and burn this village" option has entirely disappeared. I can force them to give me supplies (but my medic doesn't like that for some reason), enslave some villagers or steal cattle, but there's no option to loot it. Where has it gone?! (I'm not a member or mercenary of any faction btw)

No... you will be part of the army. There is an option to enlist while you are talking to a Noble. I think it is under "I wish to ask you some questions" but I am not 100% sure. You will get a weekly wage, experience and arms/armour but you will start as a gebur angle/saxon or equivalent. You can even desert the army (which will give you a big loss in reputation and most lords will hate you for a while  ). It is fun though... at least for a while....

.... and the loot and burn option might have vanished with 1.393 ?!?
