| Izmailovskii Leib Gvardii Regiment was formed in 1730. During the Patriotic War of 1812 was in the 1st Western Army, 5th Infantry Division. The Regiment covered themselves with everlasting glory of their heroism upon the battle of Borodino Mikhail Kutuzov: "I can not boast of a fairly commended the exemplary valour, to be in this day of the Life Guards regiments Izmailovskii and Lithuania. Arriving on the left flank, they steadfastly kept of strongest enemy artillery fire, sprinkled with series of shots, despite the loss, profit in the best device, and all ranks from the first to the last one before the other, is their eagerness to die before one yield to the enemy ... "Izmailovskii, Lithuanian and Finnish shelves were built in a square. For six hours under continuous enemy artillery fire, they attack reflected cuirassier corps of General Nansuti. Izmailovskii Leib Gvardii Regiment was granted St George flags with the inscription "For Excellence in the defeat and exile of the enemy out of Russia in 1812." Izmailovskii excelled in the battle of Kulm, for which the regiment was granted two silver trumpets. |
