.953 Training Grounds Trainer Difficulty

Is it me, or did the trainer's fighters in the training ground get way easier?  I had no trouble at level 2 with 9 agility, no power strike, and no weapon proficiency above 55 getting through all 12 without a loss.  I seem to remember in the past that if I struck a Veteran or Champion, he would recover fast enough to strike me subsequently before I could strike a second time.  This time, I just had to hit-hit-hit-hit and never bother blocking, which at level 3 seems odd.  I mean...  it seemed like in the past it was literally impossible for me to defeat a Champion 1-on-1 at the start of the game because I never had time to strike, even after a parry.

With which version did you start playing?  I'm pretty sure it hasn't always been.  But right now, it seems like Champion Fighters are no more difficult to Novices...  as though the AI changed.  I'm pretty sure my skills have not improved very much since .90x; in fact, I think they have declined.

Champion Fighters have always been pretty much pushovers. If it really bothers you could up the difficulty, but I like to get my exp fast

Horse practice is actually way too hard. Sparring is great though.
I don't do it for proficiencies, I do it for fun(just the first gualifying matches, none after that as they're a waste of time) that gives experience.

I agree. Those pots are impossible, and you can't ride through them like you could a real enemy.

The archery is really boring, and only counts headshots. I don't know if the distance makes any difference, but for a bunch of work I get like...1 experience.  :???:

Sparring would be even better if more men could participate and if it were something besides "fight the leader."

As to the OP, it could be that you, as a player have gotten better at the game (-: I remember, when I first played the game, I foud the top tiers next to impossible. Now, they all fall easy, no matter if I have only 33 proficiency.

I second that the the archery practice is obscenely hard, it's a nice challenge, for when you already have 200 proficiency,  but not as practice. I thik instead of pots it needs proper targets - straw men, big bullseye rings, etc. And the rewards need to be upped.

Since version 752 (it was 7** im not possative witch one) ive been doing the training all the way through at level one pretty much on my first attemp (i count myself unlucky to lose a fight). If you've got the sheild its dead easy if you've got the pole, just keep walking backwards and whack away and for the two handed sword just walk backwards while timing your blocks and counters right while aiming for the head. Honestly once you learn how to fight you should be able to murder the AI as they cant get a hit on you and you keep belting them to the head and then whacking them on the ground.

Yes, and the place to do it is in the castles.... have you noticed how a lot of castles have archery targets set up in the courtyard? These actually work -- fire a few arrows it will give you a score, and the range. It's great for actual practice (for yourself) but unfortunately the character gets no rewards from it, no experience, no proficiency. Still, it's a bit of fun....

The trainers are fine as they are, they give you a taste of combat if you've never played the game before, once you get used to the timings of blocking and attacking, you can pretty much take anyone one on one.

I've beaten all the trainers at level 1, in every version of M&B I ever played, even going back to v0.6xx. Even on my very first game of M&B. In fact, the first thing I ever did in M&B when I first got it was rape all the trainer guys at level 1. If you find this difficult then you either suck or are not trying very hard.

protip: don't stand there trading blows. run around and time your attacks to get a speed bonus. it shouldn't take more than 3 hits to kill any of them.

I'd love to see the option to choose what weapon you practice with in the hand to hand one, rather than always the beat-down pole.

Same, back in .632 they were all pretty easy. The only thing that has changed has been the location you train at. Before .8xx it was in one of many of the same rooms (arched ceiling, three archways in to an area with a lower arched ceiling, etc., all merchants in all towns were in these buildings). In .8xx, it was in a larger 'hall' and even had a small elevated portion which you could get to.

I believe it was .89x that introduced the new training grounds, where you fight in the open.

Besides that, nothing has changed.

Impossible? Hardly! I can complete the entire course with anything but the thrown weapons. That's because thrown weapons fail on hroseback.

The distance does effect the amount of experience you and your troops gain (slightly). If you're only getting 1 experience, you aren't hitting ****. If your troops are only getting 1 experience, they aren't the right type of troop. Only ranged troops benefit from ranged weapon practice.

Weird, I can only do the horseback course with a bow.

The big problem is that I never know when I got a pot or not with swung weapons, so I have to keep turning back to look, then I miss the next pot.  There needs to be a pot-breaking sound.

And for some reason, I miss a LOT with a swung weapon.  I almost never miss soldiers in the battlefield...  I'm just not sure if I am aiming too high, too low, am not close enough, if there is a hitbox problem, or if my timing is off.

I have to agree that I'd prefer for the horse course to use strawmen.  Striking them down would feel just like the forums!

I see what you did there.
