The 80th regiment of foot (staffordshire volunteers) history
The 80th regiment of foot was created in 1793 by Henry William Paget.
The regiment first saw action in 1794-5 in Holland and Flanders.
The 80th regiment of foot spent four years in Ceylon before being
shipped to Egypt has a force to eradicate Napoleon. The British
government recognized in Egypt and awarded "The sphinx
subscribed Egypt"
Through the years the 80th regiment of foot fought in many wars
such has the Napoleonic wars in Europe and Egypt the first Sikh war
in India and the Zulu wars they fully replaced then 80th regiment of
foot with the South Staffordshire regiment in 1881.
