Huzzah! My First post. I was just trying to get the hang of the new mouse-blocking system. It's a brilliant improvement, but actually blocking against a champion fighter or another equally deadly foe that feints a dozen times before actually striking, is damn near impossible (for someone with reflexes like mine). It seems that because you actually have to start moving the mouse before you hit block, a fast opponent can fient and change attack directions faster than you can take your finger off the block button, move the mouse and hit block again.

I was thinking a possible solution would be to allow the player to hold the block button, then move the mouse to speciffy the block direction, as many times as necessary without taking your finger off the block button. This way you'd be able to keep up with the rapid fienting.
At lower agility levels, the speed at wich the weapon would be moved into position would be alot slower, and maybe the distance the mouse has to be moved to change the block direction would be larger. Changing block directions would be faster at higher levels and would require less mouse movement. Hope I explained this right...

M&B's melee system is by far the best I've ever played. I've been playing since .632, an this has been my favourite update so far, and with balancing to the shield and other aspects of the melee combat system, this game is gonna beat the hell out of anything else out there! How do you guys think the blocking system could be balanced, if at all?

Same for attack would be very nice. This would solve a lot of problems. (And is somewhat like the system used in Daggerfall)

Exactly what I was thinking, but a lot better explained than how I would have said it ::smile: /applause

I heartily endorse this suggestion.

I'm not liking the mouse movement option much at all. I definitely like the idea of manually blocking in the right direction, but I'd much rather direct my blocks and attacks with WSAD than the mouse which also controls my viewport.

Great suggestion! It would add some fluidity to combat if both blocking and moving into attack stance worked this way. Just hold down attack and move the mouse around to choose your stance, then let it fly. High agility should let you change attack / defend stances faster.

I think the biggest benefit of the changed in .710 was to show how elegant the previous system was.

Now with having to move the mouse to block and attack, it's a roller coaster view trying to keep tracking the character's heading as well as the attacks and blocks. As long as move movement is tied to camera view I think relative position is a much smoother method of attack, and the smart blocking feature is much smoother for defense.

Aye, dead on. Besides I wanna be able to play this game with little effort. Booh to all those 'I want more reality' whiners. Go out and join some fightclub and leave the games to be... well games.... for chrissakes (mutters....)

That's why I like how Armagan has included these features as toggle-able, you can chose the level of "realism" that you want...

This is reminiscent of golf games... you have the 2 click, 3 click and slide-the-mouse type swings... a way to play for everyone.

Yeah, having these things as an option is great! It caters to both the people who are in it for the RPG elements and those who want challenging combat. Is there anyone who would seriously object to having these things implemented as another option? Just wondering If it would need more balancing in order to keep the AI from constantly changing attack directions... 1v1 encounters could last forever. Thoughts?

As long it doesnt make the character look around as a drunken junkie then its good. But It shouldnt slow down the view either. Tough one :???:

I hate you

I hate you with all of my being

This game was made to be realistic. Therefore, all of the people who want more reality are not really whiners, they are saying they want more from the developers. Meaning they like what they're getting and they want more.

The only ****ing whiner I see at the moment would be you, whining about people who you have labeled. Would you like to be labeled by people who don't actually know you?
