.703 Patch not installing

When I try to install it gives me an error that says:

Error opening file for writing \Mount&Blade\fmod.dll

Then it asks me if I want to abort, retry, or ignore. Retry throws the same error, and ignoring goes to yet another error with a different file. I tried downloading the patch again but it gives me the same errors.

I can confirm another case of this. When I run the patch version and the full install version I get a message that looks like this:

Mount&Blade 0.703 Setup
---------------------------------------------
Error opening file for writing:
"C:\Program Files\Mount&Blade\fmod.dll"
Hit abort to abort installation,
retry to retry writing the file, or
ignore to skip this file

[ Abort ] [ Retry ] [ Ignore ]


When I hit Retry the same thing happens, and when I hit Ignore the intsaller continues to the next 2 files(all 3 are right after each other I think) with the same problems: 'mount&blade.exe' and 'SkinMagic.dll'. Ignoring those 3 results in an otherwise problem-free install, and the game runs (so far without problems). But instead of being version 0.703, it says it's version 0.701 Beta.

I am running Windows XP (does this game work with other versions of windows?), I'm not sure if it's the latest version though.

EDIT: Upon learning that the .703 installer download link on the site actually downloads the installer for .701, please disregard all problems aside from the patch intaller, I was just imagining the rest.

Well I figured out a way around it. I had mount & blade installed on my E drive, and when I tried uninstalling my old version and then running the .703 full version instead of the patch, it gave me the same error. After that I tried installing on my C drive and it worked fine. Any reason for this?
