well he kinda did

"On top of that, there is also a matchmaking system which ties in nicely with our more competitive game modes (see question below).”

"There is also Skirmish Battle, a more competitive game mode that is designed to be played 6 vs 6. You have multiple lives per round, but each troop has a different cost, which means you have to make a choice between fielding a greater number of poorly equipped troops or fewer more specialised ones. Good communication and managing your lives are key in this mode."

he did mention duel as well as a siege overhaul, seems odd to not mention the other modes

someone skilled in mods and codes will just have to take one for the team and remake battle for a bunch of us old ungrateful players who will give you no credit and nitpick and flame everything you do, any takers?

From the gameplay we've seen, and from what this blog appears to confirm, it seems you can no longer pick what gear you want to use in each slot like in warband.

This especially makes sense given that the designer is from NW, where this is the norm; in the battle mode we've seen gameplay of there was no gear selection but rather a selection of "troops" with preset gear that you could play as - again the same as NW - and given the wording in this blog about equipment it seems it will be the same in this 6v6 mode.

So it seems each troop type you can select will have a number of lives attached to it, for instance a heavily armoured one having 3 lives and a light one having 5 lives.

Want to point out that this is garbage and I will probably give up pretty fast on Bannerlord MP if this is how they do it. The gear-selection dynamic helps not only with the competitive but makes all modes much more enjoyable. Can't imagine playing a version of warband where I can only use preset troop templates for my gear

it is not (new) news that Bannerlord will not have a proper gamemode for (comp) battles, this dev blog merely strengthens  the idea that we'll simply have to mod it in ourselves.

Problem is that means we won't be seeing e-sport Mount and Blade in the future. I personally wanted Bannerlord to bring us armour and weapon customisation in multiplayer. Just imagine every player having their signature weapon, riding to battle with their clan banner on their armour. Rip dreemsss

Yeah, this seems like a thing. To be honest, I've never expected Bannerlord to be any good MP game, maybe except some Siege gameplay, which I won't even bother with.

Then why have matchmaking? It's clearly their plan to have something competitive (he even uses the word), it just seems poorly designed.

I feel like the competitive side of bannerlord will just be commanding; how well you can place your troops and engage with them, the competitive aspect seems fairly simple instead of doing MMR, matching players based on class, skill etc for two groups. I think it's just an easy way of claiming bannerlord to be competitive by having a simple 1v1 PvP with bots instead of coding an entire MMR system with individual players, matching based on class etc. They're probably unsure of how big bannerlord competitive will be, they're just not taking risks.

Screw NW

Being able to not pick your gear is kind of ridiculous it adds to the overall game tremendously.

Here's an image to display the lack of customisation (as Gibby mentioned). After watching some of the video, I can't see where you're able to change your armour or anything of the similar sort.

Because some have lobbied for a matchmaking or competitive system, but it seems like a certain someone at the top doesn't share the (same) vision others have.
Bannerlord is not aimed at pleasing the current fanbase, it is aimed at attracting more and new types of players. (Like arcade)

So they would rather alienate us to try and gain a fanbase which isn't there and mostly probably won't even come. that's pretty dumb.

It's a good idea to make it approachable, but a bad idea to have a poor game mode as the entry level.

different preset classes? Check
6v6? Check
Respawns? Check
Moving to capture a point then move to the next one? Check

methinks someone is playing overwatch a lot  :fruity:

They're trying to appeal to the masses who buy the game looking for large scale battles and such. While there is a scene here on the forums, fact is most people play other game modes such as siege, DM and singleplayer. I think the whole NW scene for ages were massive linebattles. Maybe they're trying to make it like tiger knight..?

But that aside it is a really weird choice seeing as modes with bots included are pretty unpopular except FI2 and that one NW server. People just eventually learn the bots rhythm after playing for long enough and can just cheese them so it does depend how much better the AI is.

TaleWorlds have never been brilliant at communicating so battle will probably still be there tbh, but I don't think we can expect it as I don't know how much of a 'business model' it is to bet on this scene's preferences when compared to the rest of warband?

For others, it is an opportunity to run around naked with a two-handed sword and test their combat skills against players from all around the world. In this week’s blog, we talk with the person responsible for making these equally epic (and sometimes silly) experiences a reality in Bannerlord: Korneel Guns.

I think this quote confirms that we will be able to go naked.
How can we get naked if there is no customization ?

There wasnt a choice to be naked in captain videos.

of course they aren't going to devote a lot of resources to competitive, it makes sense from their perspective. However, they've added matchmaking and explicitly mentioned competitive intentions in the newest blog, so clearly they want it to have some relevance. They should have communicated with competitive players about what to do in this regard; people at TW have never played comp warband, other than Lust who is now gone, so it should have been common sense for them to at least ask some players for their opinions. this is especially true given that there are players here who have played competitive for almost a full decade

if they end the economy system and go for preset troops it will be a disaster; a lot of the fun, and uniqueness, in warband comes from choosing the equipment that suits you and tbh they should have expanded this to have more weapon varieties, not closed it down so now u have to pick from just a couple of pre-determined options. especially worried about some of the builds being useless in comparison with others, has the potential to exacerbate faction imbalance significantly
