History of the Regiment

The 65th (2nd Yorkshire, North Riding) Regiment of Foot was a British Army infantry regiment formed in 1758 from the redesignation of the 2nd Battalion, 12th Regiment of Foot. In 1881 it would become the 1st Battalion, York and Lancaster Regiment when amalgamated with the 84th (York and Lancaster) Regiment of Foot.

Seven Years' War

After the regiment was formed in 1758 it was sent to the fever ridden West Indies to aid in the capturing of the French islands of Guadeloupe (1759) and Martinique (1762). They were also involved in the expedition to capture Havana, Cuba in 1762. In 1764 the 65th Foot returned to England, where the regiment refilled its ranks.

American Revolution

In 1768 the 65th Foot was shipped to Boston, Massachusetts as part of the garrison. A few years later in 1775 the American War of Independence began. The regiment's first action in the war was at the Battle of Bunker Hill in 1775 where their Grenadier and Light Companies were involved in the attack.
In 1776 the remnants of the 65th Foot were drafted into other regiments and the officers sent home to reform. In 1782 they received the title 2nd Yorkshire, North Riding Regiment.

Campaigns in Canada, the Caribbean, South Africa, and India, ETC!

In 1789 war had broken out with France again and Spain and the 65th were sent in 1782 to the fortress at Gibraltar which had fallen to British forces. After this regiment was sent to Canada in 1784 and Nova Scotia in 1791. In 1794 the 65th Foot were shipped back to the West Indies to take part in the attack on Santo Domingo in Haiti and a second attack on Martinique and then St Lucia.

The 65th Foot were shipped to South Africa in 1800 and on to Ceylon where they were involved in the Kandian War and the Mahratta War both in 1803. The Napoleonic War was still going strong and the regiment was dispatched to the island of Mauritius in 1810 where they took part in the capture of the island. After this they were shipped back to India where they remained until 1821. During this time they were briefly involved in the campaign against the Oman Coast Pirates in the Persian Gulf as well as numerous uprisings and small wars in India.

The Artillery company! Need a hole in the wall? Got a nice group of enemys advancing on you quicker than you would like? No problem, these guys will just create a crater where they/it used to be. One of the most important companys are the artillery, in many situations, we would not win without them. They provide much needed support, from a long way away. We don't just need artillery rankers for this, we also need guards. So if you like blowing **** up, join the Artillery.

Linebattles & Training

We will aim to have at least 3-4 line battles a week, and to try and do some form of training every day. As we grow in numbers we hope we can do more of both, and make it a very fun regiment.

Our Rules

[list type=decimal]
[*]When in training or Linebattles, don't kick or deliberately teamkill.
[*]Listen to NCO's and Officers.
[*]If you are on Teamspeak 3, do not spam.
[*]Don't go onto other servers just to troll.
[*]We don't mind swearing, but keep it to a level.
[*]No discrimination.

54th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment

Background

The 54th Regiment Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry was an infantry regiment that saw extensive service in the Union Army during the American Civil War. The regiment was one of the first official black units in the United States during the Civil War.

The regiment was authorized in March 1863 by the Governor of Massachusetts, John A. Andrew. Commanded by Colonel Robert Gould Shaw, it was commissioned after the passage of the Emancipation Proclamation. Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton decided white officers would be in charge of all "colored" units. Colonel Shaw was hand picked by Governor John Andrew.

The 54th trained at Camp Meigs in Readville near Boston. While there they received considerable moral support from abolitionists in Massachusetts including Ralph Waldo Emerson. Material support included warm clothing items, battle flags and $500 contributed for the equipping and training of a regimental band. As it became evident that many more recruits were coming forward than were needed the medical exam for the 54th was described as "rigid and thorough" by the Massachusetts Surgeon-General. This resulted in what he described as the most "robust, strong and healthy set of men" ever mustered into service in the United States. Despite this, as was common in the Civil War, a few men died of disease prior to the 54th's departure from Camp Meigs.

By most accounts the 54th left Boston with very high morale. This was despite the fact that Jefferson Davis' proclamation of December 23, 1862 effectively put both African-American enlisted men and white officers under a death sentence if captured. The proclamation was affirmed by the Confederate Congress in January 1863 and turned both enlisted soldiers and their white officers over to the states from which the enlisted soldiers had been slaves.

The regiment's first battlefield action took place in a skirmish with Confederate troops on James Island, South Carolina, on July 16. The regiment stopped a Confederate assault, losing 42 men in the process.

Depiction of the attack on Fort Wagner in the painting The Old Flag Never Touched the Ground
The regiment gained recognition on July 18, 1863, when it spearheaded an assault on Fort Wagner near Charleston, South Carolina. At this battle, Colonel Shaw was killed, along with 29 of his men. 24 more later died of wounds, 15 were captured, 52 were missing in action and never accounted for, and 149 were wounded. The total regimental casualties of 272 would be the highest total for the 54th in a single engagement during the war. Although Union forces were not able to take and hold the fort (despite taking a portion of the walls in the initial assault), the 54th was widely acclaimed for its valor during the battle, and the event helped encourage the further enlistment and mobilization of African-American troops, a key development that President Abraham Lincoln once noted as helping to secure the final victory.

Under the command of now-Colonel Edward Hallowell, the 54th fought a rear-guard action covering the Union retreat at the Battle of Olustee. As part of an all-black brigade under Col. Alfred S. Hartwell, they unsuccessfully attacked entrenched Confederate militia at the November 1864 Battle of Honey Hill. In mid-April 1865, they fought at the Battle of Boykin's Mill, a small affair in South Carolina that proved to be one of the last engagements of the war.

It's hard to expect that from people that think Generals are the top of a Regiment and not a Colonel.

2 members were trolling today I know, 1 was banned and the other was an invite. I'm sorry for it and already spoke to your Sgt about it..

We didn't say 'We don't LB noobs' that was the invite.

Diplex I dunno what you heard, but your Adjutant was pretty quick to mouth off too..

We came at very short notice, it was gone 10:30pm and I thought I was doing someone a favor.

So don't post on here until you find out what actually happens.

Thanks!

PavGren Cliffe: I'm saying this off the record- 63e is the gayest regiment in existence
PavGren Cliffe: every negative adjective you can think of applies to 63e

ElectroTerapin: lol

PavGren Cliffe: We're joining a respectable regiment that doesn't have a 6 in the name. Then, we won't suck anymore

Looks like he's leaving anyway..

I see he has strong views, but I can't do anything, I ain't his dad, I'm sure he has valid reasons for saying it.

As for the LB, I would happily have one against you in a couple weeks, but we have more important issues to focus on right now!

"I'm sure he has valid reasons for saying it." I think not! Im not sure on what part the community you're on, but others say the opposite.

Ah, in a couple of weeks? I think ill have forgotten about it by then, and perhaps thats what you want

Nah come'on! LB us this week, and prove what you said before.

I'm friends with one of your members, we will arrange it as and when

And Cliffe is in the artillery, the company lead by Ser Davos (and Terrapin before he left).

So don't be so quick to judge

We have 50+ members. We update the roster ever so often. and no, you don't just spam trolls, you troll as much as the other trolls!

Theres a difference between fielding and having 50 people. If we didnt clear inactives every month there would be at least a thousand in the steam group by now.

I've only just saw this now but let me just say a few things. You can blame everything on your members and invites because you weren't doing anything about it but when you say I was pretty quick to mouth off that's a bit too far. I sat and watched you guys for the whole of the second half of the conquest mouthing to us till I said anything, also when I mentioned anything about LB's to your members they were quick to move onto another subject and even ignored me, lol.

We are fine to have a LB, with equal numbers. If your planning on bringing 60 people against 30 of us, then your dumber than I thought..

Idc much for 63e, so far 70-80% of your members I have met seem to ***** about everything.

If you want an equal Linebattle, I will arrange one with Karth. Until then stop begging, find a regiment that is the same size as you.

+ 'My Men' aren't dogs, I can't just snap my fingers, in-case you forget they are all sat at different locations around the world.
