I have an all archer party, with AI on good. Lately, I've been watching them shoot. I've noticed they hit about 1 out of 4 shots. I think this should be more like 50% of the time. Also, the biggest thing that makes archers very unpractical for combat is their stupidity. I've noticed that they seem to pace around, even when the enemy is in plain sight, spearing them with javelins. they walk forward a few steps, then backward, always facing the enemy. Also, if a fellow soldier is in the way, they don't shoot. Sure, this is preferable to nailing a teammate in the back of the head, but I think they should be able to move so they have a clear line of sight.

Shouldn't the hit percentage be a function of the skill level of the shooter and the difficulty of the shot? Rather than saying, "It should be 50%"?

I know what you mean about the archers pacing around when they should be aiming and how if their line-of-fire is blocked they should move to the side. I get slightly impatient when I know their arrows/bolts could really do some good for our side.

I've also noticed though, that when I'm with my men and we're standing our ground as the enemy charges that I will take hits from my own side if an archer/crossbowmen is behind me. I've never taken major damage - just 4-7 points - but I'm taking friendly fire from a guy standing a foot behind me!

Dude, take one step sideways before you let fly!

Edit: love the combat, just mentioning some nitpicks.

What I want to see is tighter control of my units-- it would be awesome to be able to order my ranged units up on the high ground, and watch them rain a barrage of arrows on the poor saps. Or to order them to get in a straight line, hold fire, and then when the enemies get close, ordering them to fire in unison. In freaking unison. Yes, that would be awesome.

And they hit IF they have a good skill lvl, IF their arrow flies fly where ment and IF the enemies aren't blocking or dodging the arrow. The arrows aren't pre-stated wheter to hit or not.
