Bonjour mes amis.

We are the 54th Infantry Regiment of glorious France! We have partaken in such landmark battles as the Battle of Valmy, Kaiserlautern and Mainz. We are looking for good soldiers to fight for the french homeland, and to destroy the Prussian and British pigs!

Ranks have been restructured! My rank is Général de brigade, and everyone else is starting as a Soldat 1e classe.

Don't worry if you feel bad that you've been "demoted" from Colonel or Chef de brigade, promotion won't be hard, and this new rank system will surely add some more dynamism to the régiment.

And yes, I know I'm using the modern ranks of the French Army, but they have not changed much since the 18th century, so we'll use it for now.

Rank Structure of the 54e Régiment d'Infanterie de Ligne, from Superior to Inferior:

  • Général de brigade

Senior Officers:

  • Colonel
  • Lieutenant-colonel
  • Commandant

Junior Officers:

  • Capitaine
  • Lieutenant
  • Sous-Lieutenant
  • Aspirant

Sous-officers:

  • Adjutant-chef
  • Adjutant - Avengeil and Austupaio
  • Sergent-chef
  • Sergent
  • Élève sous-officier - Shredzorz

Militaires du rang:

  • Caporal-chef (1e classe) - AK
  • Caporal-chef
  • Caporal - Toffey
  • Soldat (1e classe) - Zaphod, Lurdze, Illuvate, Joseph590 and Assassinator1097
  • Soldat -

Abbreviations for your rank: Remember to put these in front of your name, after "54e_".

Sol for Soldat, Sol1e for Soldat 1e classe, Cpl for Caporal, CplC for Caporal-chef, CplC1e for Caporal-chef 1e classe, ESO for Élève sous-officier, Sgt for Sergent, SgtC for Sergent-chef, Adj for Adjutant, AdjC for Adjutant-chef, Asp for Aspirant, SLt for Sous-Lieutenant, Lt for Lieutenant, Cpt for Capitaine, Cmdt for Commandant, LtCol for Lieutenant-Colonel, Col for Colonel and lastly Gen for Général de brigade.

Duties of Senior officers: You are my right hand men (or women), and you take the reports of the Warrant and Junior officers. If something is very important, then report it to me. Also report to me anything you feel I should know. Command the Warrant and Junior officers well, so that they may command their inferiors just as well.

Duties of Junior officers: Command the Sous-officers, report to your superiors (Senior Officers) any troublemakers, and do not bicker with your superior officers or each other. If you have an issue with a fellow Junior Officer, report to a higher officer, but never to le général unless your problem is with a Senior Officer.

Duties of Sous-officiers: Listen to your commanding officers, and keep order over the rank and file. If you have any problems with a fellow sous-officiers, report to a commanding officer, or difficulties with a commanding officer, report to their superior officer, not to me, as that is breaking the chain of command.

Duties of the Militaires du rang: You are the body of the machine that is the 54e, the rank and file. You are the hands that work, the feet that walk, and the weapons that kill. Follow orders, be proud and be brave.

Ours is a glorious regiment, decorated and holy. Respect that, and fight for sacred France!

Zaphod here, applying for Francois Negrier!

Done. Welcome to the 54th. :)

And an addendum concerning all members: Remember to put 54e_ before your rank and name. So as an example, my character would be named 54e_Gen_Pierre_Dumesnil.

So, as another recap, your name should go "54E_(rank)_(name).

Oh God !

Le 54e RI, nom de Dieu !

This is awesome, this mod is great (just discovered it and tested it) and this idea about le 54e régiment d'infanterie de ligne is awesome. I would very much like to apply for le Citoyen Chef de Brigade Glinec. Some weird time machine sent me (a commoner, soldier of the Revolution and commanding officer of the 54th in 1794) during the Seven Years War but who cares !

So if I may add a few useless comments to this topic :
- the name of the 54th during the SYW was le Royal Roussillon. The name 54th RI came only after the French Revolution
- the uniform of the french infantry in the game seems correct when compared to this painting of the 54th's victory at Carillon
- the flag of the Royal Roussillon at the time was as following : http://www.drapeaux.org/France/Ancien_Regime/55_Royal_Roussillon.htm
- this flag was changed (obviously) after the revolution to this one : http://www.drapeaux.org/France/Revolution/54_Ligne.htm (yeah, no one gives a damn right now...)

Well well (bref), I hope you will welcome my candidacy. Although I am a rather lousy shot, my dedication and loyalty to France and the Régiment will have no limit !

Discipline & Obéissance à la Loi !

Best regards

Great suggestions, and nice info. I've added you as an official chef de brigade of the 54e.

We'll keep the name 54e Régiment d'Infanterie de Ligne, simply because it's an easier clan tag :P

But, I will change the Régiment colors to the one you provided, however the one from 1791 is the one I'll be using, as it looks nicer and has "54" on it :)

Thank you Général Dumesnil, I'm honored  :D  I created a character named "54e_Chef_de_Brigade_Glinec".

Just for the sake of clarity, in the officers' names list, you can simply mention me in here

  • No need to add a new line at the bottom here, since this is the same Glinec we are talking about.

    • I just said "le Citoyen Chef de Brigade Glinec" to underline the fact that Glinec was a commoner, not a nobleman, and that he managed to become an officer thanks to the French Revolution ("Citoyen" being French for Citizen, a word used to affirm one's loyalty to democracy at the time).
So as a matter of fact I do not know Glinec's first name... (now way to find it, apparently. It seems that, with the replacement of the rank of "Colonel" with the rank of "Chef de Brigade", the officer's first name was not used during the Revolution since we don't know it for Sauvat either)

Once again : great to be a part of this. The 54th was a great regiment and has seen a lot of action, from the XVIIth century to WW1

Lulz, I babelfish'd "Clitoyen" with an L because that's what I saw first, and it came back with nothing, so I assumed it was a name.

Citoyen makes much more sense.

Hey guys I was thinking we could have a little training/get together sometime. I would host a server just for us.

What times do you think would work for all of you?

Any where between 2 and 6 GMT -6 I could probably make it later/earlier depending on the day. It would just have to be scheduled but that's my prime time.

I don't understand why timezones aren't just straight lines and they enjoy invading other lands outside of their sector.

Ok, I was thinking maybe Thursday or Friday this week. Probably the time span you suggested, too, pending on everyone being able to make that time.

And time zones are crooked to avoid cutting major population centers in half, so people in a big metropolitan area can all be on the same clock.

Hey there

hard for me to be available before 9PM CET (so 8PM CMT). Working a bit late most of the time (and even later the rest of the time).

I'd love a good team drill, though

8PM CMT? Did you mean GMT?
