Unfortunately, it's a Capitalist thing. It's their company, their service. They can, and should be allowed to, do whatever they want. Where the trouble comes in is that these companies have a tendency to monopolize all but the most densely populated areas.

No, they shouldn't be allowed to. Companies need to be regulated.

But the glory of capitalism is that you have the choice to not use their provided services if you don't want it. Still its pretty underhanded when they are the only provider available for a particular area

Capitalism? Well, there's still the Law...

In the French Law, a contract can be denounced even after it's been signed, if the contract contains an illegal or abusive clause, or even if one of the contracting parties can prove that he was abused over the interpretation of one of the clauses.
I.e, when it's written in very small characters, or in an incomprehensible jargon...

The French Supreme Court has recently ruled that a law has to be 'understandable for the common man'. If it isn't, it is to be repelled.

That, and the EU Commission and the French Supreme Court have promoted Internet access as a "component of the freedom of expression" that cannot bear to be restricted.

What about US law?

The thing is, these companies are the only way to access the internet.
No, they're the cheapest way to access the internet.

How come the internet always seems to think /b/ = 4chan

This comes across as "LOL I'VE HERD ABOUT THIS SITE OFF MY FRUND! IT'S FULL OF CP AN AHOLES."
Meanwhile plenty of slightly less aholish but plenty more elitiest crap happens in the other boards. Sorta like the average forum really.
The moar you know

Probably because /b/ is, sadly enough, about the best 4Chan has to offer.

In fact, until Dimos started his own board, 4Chan was the sole place on the internet where spam bots could feel intellectually superior.

What? It's not a capitalist thing at all. Choice of denial of service is in no way limited to capitalism, and does not define it.

The "capitalist thing" is the ability to switch your internet provider if they're being phallus palaces.

Not at all. Markets can exist outside capitalism, and therefore choice can be available outside capitalism.
