So, apparently, two of 4chan's NSFW boards, /r9k/ and the notorious /b/, have been blocked by AT&T. Users of their service are reporting they are unable to access the boards. I'm no fan of /b/ and I've never been on /r9k/, but I think censorship in any form is wrong, and I think this is censorship. What do you all think? Were AT&T right to block? No?

Discuss.

Source. Source2.

If AT&T is going to start limiting the usage of their service, they should be obligated to refund the last payment made by customers and allow them to cancel their contract without extra fees; unless they agree to continue the service as is. Certainly not a final answer, but something along those lines should be put in place.

On the other hand, 4chan can go to hell for all I care.  :???:

While I think censorship is bull****...

I have to say it's well within AT&T's rights to do this. Does it make it right? No.

But there's no legal action you could take to reverse it.

What kind of stuff are the 4chaners capable of doing? I'm not the most imaginative person...so I've got no clue.

Is /tg/ affected? No? Then nothing of value was lost.

Seriously though, I don't see the point of blocking 4chan. If your users don't want to visit a site, then I think they'll figure it out on their own after all...

They pulled that Anon **** a while back, a lot of were making phone calls, blanking out sites, putting bricks in your windows.. all kinds of ****.

Wouldn't be surprised if AT&T office buildings started reporting a lot of vandalism.

Wouldn't be surprised if the first AT&T executive who publicly supports this block has every bit of his personal information posted all over the internet and essentially has his life destroyed by threats, pranks, blackmail, lies, whatever.

In which case, it would look like he was completely justified in blocking it, wouldn't it?

Is this the part where i point out that our government is trying to do this, but for the whole of Australia?

I predict immediate global revolt against these measures.

Pfft, as that'll happen. The government is doing it under the guise of preventing "CP and unwanted content". Unwanted content includes porn. As soon as someone makes a complain about a site (and it is bannable), it gets added to the list and will be blocked. At least, that's how the filter will be run, last info i heard.

Viva la proxy?

This seems a bit questionable since I couldn't find anything to validate the claims; the move, if real, would be quite idiotic in my opinion. If it's an intentional act, it would seem some people at the top don't like other people accessing this site for some reason.
Perhaps it is a FBI or CIA investigation?

Whining like a bunch of six year olds, barely literal ranting, homosexuality.

Internet vandalism. They're basically just internet chavs, anyway.

Shutting down the parking lot where they loiter will only provoke them and make them migrate elsewhere.

What do you guys got against 4Chan? They provide us with memes, and memes lead to lulz. I don't see the problem.

The fact that AT&T is blocking portions of 4chan has been proved. They've admitted it, for starters.

This is a very bad move on their part and seriously threatens net neutrality. I don't give a damn about 4chan.

But I do care that AT&T seems to think they get to decide what their paying customers get to look at. As if they know better.

I've been sending e-mails to everyone I know (and even people I don't know) for the past hour, including news outlets.

With that thin layer of users that provides us with funny witty stuff on top, comes a thick slab of idiots underneath.
