3rd option of how to deal with bandits.

If you have high enough Roguery/Charm maybe when you encounter bandits you can offer them pay to join your army instead of fighting you. If you Fail, you fight anyways. If they accept, you not only avoided a battle, but you got more troops. Maybe only 1/2 join your side, then you have to fight the remaining ones.

Also, if your a larger army and you don't want to kill but you need supplies or money. Maybe they can afford to pay you to go to away, just like how we pay them to go away?

I think that's actually in the Cunning tree somewhere. Granted, I think it's all the way near the end. I doubt you'll ever have a character live long enough to get there.
