I figured I'd register and reply directly so Nemesis doesn't have to keep routing through me.

Well, considering I use Blender 3D and Gimp, we don't really have much in common to begin with.

3D Art skills and techniques are generally universal, it's simply a matter of knowing the shortcuts and names/locations of all the tools, same goes for 2d editing software. However, in the interest of learning the industry standard tools, it is possible to get a 30-day trials from the software websites.

Well, that and GIMP, IMO, kind of stinks. It doesn't have the awesome UI and layout and ease of use that Photoshop has.

Remember, IMO

Gimp is way easier and cleaner UI wise than Photoshop.
lol  you cant find a thing in gimp
That's why I was lost when I used Photoshop but had an easy time in Gimp right? It's more user friendly imo. I don't need anything professional, I just need something that works.

Well the thing that confused the most people in photoshop is, There are multiple options do do something in photoshop, you can change the color of a object on at least 3 different ways

I learned photoshop in 2 days in my Photography class. And I loved it.

The only thing I had used prior was GIMP and, of course, MS Paint

Photoshop blew GIMP completely out of the water when I first used it. You don't have that silly floating toolbox, and everything is in an easy to access and intuitive place.

I'm using gimp myself. Mainly because I dont have the money for photoshop, I ran my trial of it and I dont want to get it in any illegal way. Gimp suits me well  : P

they're the same thing. you're paying hundreds for photoshop for a more streamlined interface. that's basically it.

I have a good copy of Phooshop CS2 and seeing the prices and horrible new interface of later versions I doublt I'll ever update.
