2nd form of lance attack

I was just remembering the jousts at a festival I went to and they would swing their lances from side to side to knock each other from their mounts. This will give you a sort of short range attack to let you get some distance from the enemy. Also maybe be able to dismount your enemy without taking out the horse. Just some thoughts ...

Definately yes - I hate when wearing a heavy armor on the horseback and suddenly some cracker fires an arrow than kills the horse at an instant. Then you are doomed if you don't have other weapons, because you can't back away from the enemy to get a joust at them.
I agree on the swing attack. And I agree on making it easier to knock enemies from the horse wihtout killing it (you need it to sell).

When I started playing, there was an aimer both for ranged weapons and cloce combat weapons. The aimer was then improved for ranged, but removed for hand-to-hand, so now you have to guess where to hit with your sword to maximise the damage done. Sometimes I deal 0 damage because I tend to aim too low, sometimes I am lucky and deliver instant kills. What about adding, like, just a small circle in the middle of the screen (like the one for the archer actually) and then you could use that one to aim for the neck with  Would also solve the horse thing.

The do the swing because they are relatively safe and no one wants to get hurt on a festival exhibition. However, the damage done by one-handed swing with wooden lance would be close to none, as well as a chance to dismount enemy this way.

swinging a lance is like... stupid. Unless it's a spear thingy. Spears you can sort-of swing because they have a sharp tip, and that can cut people. i think swinging/slashing with spears, aka sharp pointed sticks, should be implemented. But not like.. jousting lances or anything. The pikes, spears, etc. should have swings, like the staffs. Why do staffs have swings and not spears?

Lances should break. Perhaps a 50% chance of breaking on every Couched Damage incurred. It would make charges much more dramatic with the snapping of wood sound effect in there and then having a short lance you use as a club from then on

Hard to swing a lance, basically because it is long and heavy. and you can only hold it from the bottom. I don't think you would be able to apply and worthy push force unders such circumstances.

Only jousting lances would ever break, lances that are for killing aren't made of only wood.
Is that true? I don't see why anyone would use metal lances. Only the tip must be sharp. You won't worry if it's broken or not: you will have to ditch it if it impales an enemy (as it eventually will do). Again correct me if there is something to correct.

It is true, ilex.

Tournament lances broke for one reason - safety of the contestants. It was not the aim of the tournament to kill the participating nobility. Therefore, if the impact was too hard, the lance just broke.

Battle versions of the lances were made much harder (I am not sure if they were all-metal), to maximize the impact. They also had a balancing weight similar to sword, to move the center of mass closer to the wielder's hand and make them more comfortable.

I agree with Kumamura. Jousting lance has a weak, hollow section where breaks upon impact. It's tip was also blunt, I imagine it is fitted with a small, sharp craw-like thing (to catch the edge of armour and knock opponent off). War lance is tipped with sharp steel point and made of solid wood. I don't believe there're steel ones existed. It's too expensive and heavy to use.
Lance is purely designed for charging and no one expect to use it for close combat.

Yes, this could happen, and in that case the knight discarded the lance and drew sword, axe or mace as a backup weapon or rode back to his squire who handed him another lance.
