.23FPS?!

Users who are viewing this thread

Thats with everything either off or toned down. I have 240 mb of ram. I'm not sure about the video card though. But even with crappy stuff, I hoped to get at least 10 fps. Any ideas?

240 Mb Ram?

That suggests you have an integrated card. Would likely be the cause of the problem I think.

Run DXDIAG from the start menu (from the run.. option) and when it starts click on video. It should give you the manufacturer and model of your card, as well as the driver version. Probably worth checking the manufacturer's website for driver updates.

Ok, I know my laptop sucks. It should be destroyed and have the pieces scattered around the world. But, its what I got.

The Info:

Processor: mobile AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2000+, MMX, 3DNow, ~1.7GHz
Memory: 222MB RAM

Card name: RADEON IGP 320M
Manufacturer: ATI Technologies Inc.
Chip type: U1 AGP (0x4336)

I hate laptops.

TBH I wouldn't rule out the graphics card altogether.

Check the latest (correct) drivers are installed from the card. Most likely you'll find them on the Laptop manufacturer's site.

Also shut down everything running in the background. MSCONFIG is probably the best way of doing this.

Possibly worth disabling sound too.

Hi,

I know it s a very old thread but I have exactly the same problem and nearly the same configuration.

Laptop
P4 2.40Ghz
478 MB RAM
DirectX 9.0c
ATI Mobility IGP 340M AGP 32MB

I have very low fps. it actually impossible to play on the battlefield.
I ve tried to lower evetything I could
Tried to shutdown all background applications
Updated the video card drivers
Turned off hardware acceleration for sound (in DxDiag)
Disabled sound

But there is nothing to do... I haven't found the solution on this forum.

Is there another solution ? Or is it definitely hopeless ?

The card has problems with 3D.

One thing you might try:
1) Download and install DirectX 9 from Microsoft ( )
4) unistall your video driver (from Windows Control Panel), reboot, install ATI Catalyst  drivers. PRESS OK AT THE INSTALL ERROR. Copy the modified INF file (CX_07193.inf) in the ATI driver installation directory on the same original file (search it: on my pc is C:\ATI\support\wxp-w2k-radeon-7-81-
021218a-007193c)
5) Install manually a the driver for your generic VGA card, searching in the same directory (in example: C:\ATI\support\wxp-w2k-radeon-7-81-
021218a-007193c) and selecting CX_07193.inf
6) Reboot
7) Install ATI Control Panel

Not sure if that will work as I found it as a possible workaround for it's bad 3D support.

Thank Archonsod i ll try that,

However, my question may sound stupid but ... where are points 2 and 3 in your answer ?

Copy and pasted from another site :smile:

Removed irrelevant/pointless bits.

If you haven't already, you could try tweaking your rgl_config file. Not sure how much of a boost you would get, but try:

texture_detail=1
render_buffer_size=4
use_pixel_shaders=0
disable_frequency_variation=1

The rest shouldn't affect it, but it might improve performance slightly.

Another thing would be to open the graphics card properties and set everything for performance or minimum settings rather than quality. This can screw up the menu writing, but should improve performance

My laptop had the exact same configuration, only a 1.8 celeron, instead of a P4. My game ran fine. Make sure you've turned off 3d crass, particles, shadows, etc.

I've tried all these possibilities but it didn't work.

And finally I found the explanation on a forum :
As expected, it was due to the graphic card. I "simply" had to raise the value of the shared memory in the bios to 64Mo instead of 32Mo. Apparently without this, 3D acceleration is simply disabled...

Now things are running ok : it s playable althought not very fast (15 fps in battles). It looks possible to raise this value to more than 64Mo but there s something to do with bios to achieve that. I'll try and tell you.

Thanks for your help  :smile:

The ideal balance would be between having enough RAM on the card to give good performance, while leaving enough for the system that it doesn't degrade performance.

I didn't realise they disabled 3D acceleration below 64Mb. Thanks for the info!

Yes, it sounds odd though... But this change really made a big difference.
Do you think there could be any danger about trying to increase the the value for the shared memory, appart from lowering performances ?

If you mean stick more RAM into your laptop, go for it. If you mean raise the Video card's memory at the expense of your RAM, then no, don't do it.

Shouldn't cause a problem as such. The only thing to bear in mind is that any memory allocated to the videocard is unavailable to the system. So if you go ahead and share 256Mb, it would be the same as having a card with on board memory and only 256Mb RAM in the system.
