2016 U.S. Presidential Elections: The Circus Is In Full Swing

Hoy boys. Have you seen the recent videos of Uncle Biden displaying signs of Alzheimer’s disease?
It’s getting bad based on some of the clips I’ve seen. I guess if he wins you’ll actually be voting for his vice-president, whoever that happens to be.

edit
Oh sorry of course you have. Damn new forum mobile ui had me thinking I was on the newest page and nobody was talking about it.

Why would they nominate a guy with Alzheimer's for president? The only reason I can imagine is if they would want to give a fair fight to the orange.

It’s just that people suddenly discover damning health conditions right before they get elected and after they are elected forget anything about it. I remember the same stuff before Trump got elected in 2016 and before Pelosi got to be the Speaker last time.
People were claiming Pelosi got dementia by the exact same reasons. She’s stuttering etc but it’s nothing like she can’t do her job.

It's easier for people like Nancy Pelosi to campaign against Trump, so they probably wouldn't mind a second term so much. They just have to do theatrics like ripping up his speech while not actually opposing the 'Reaganomics' aspect of the GOP agenda. Their donors are happy, the base is whipped into a furor against Trump. It makes their job a lot easier. I think that, for establishment Democrats, actually beating Trump is not at the top of their list of concerns; staying in power is. It's that way with all politicians. Biden just kind of won by default, after all the non-populist candidates coalesced behind him after he won SC. Maybe he'll win, maybe he'll lose, both options are acceptable to the top brass at the DNC. What they're most afraid of is a groundswell of economic populism within their own party, which is why they've been kicking economic progressives in the teeth since Bill Clinton.

Guys for the love of god stop doing your armchair medical diagnoses. Watching YouTube videos proves nothing. I can't watch hundreds of videos of black people looting and conclude that black protesters are all violent. You can't extrapolate on anecdotal, incomplete, prejeduced information. Medical professionals don't sit in a room and watch YouTube videos when they examine people. There's a reason why there's careful examinations, deliberation and conversation that goes into diagnosing someone as far as their mental health goes.

People lose fluid intelligence as they get older. Watch Sanders in the 80s and he's a different speaker too. This is true for Trump, your neigbour, your mom, you etc. Besides, Biden's medical records are out.

I don't like Biden much and I'm not American, but let's not circulate, contribute to and regurgitate literal Trump talking points.

Well, I agree 99%. With everything but one thing.
Guys for the love of god stop doing your armchair medical diagnoses.

You are correct in everything, but this is a forum. This is our bread and butter, discussing about things that most of us are not really experienced or even well versed in, but it's just that, discussion. For a lot of people, myself included it's kinda like a gathering with friends. We discuss a lot of subjects, get into arguments and pass the time. It's not like we are going to solve anything, even if we ARE that specialized in the subject at hand.

This post is a fine example, I think. It serves nothing, it has no particular reason behind it, but I continue writing. I am clearly bored.

@Antonis I like to think I'm contributing to the conversation, but the tone comes of as restrictive. Maybe I shouldn't do it that way.

@Antoine de Saint-Exupéry What humour?

Maybe it's just my (wrong) impression, but you tend to take things a bit more serious than needed. Well, maybe serious is not a good word; more gravely dramatic, perhaps? You'll have to excuse me, I am fresh from a feast, after a 5 month diet. My stomach and my brain have switched functions.

It's possible, but also this whole populism thing that's big now thrives on misinformed opinions. If you spend your time on a forum or a discord server for hours a day you will influence the people there and they'll influence you. It doesn't matter what the place or platform is. You sit in a community validating each others' poorly informed opinions tacitly or otherwise and you sure know it that your (misinformed) opinions are gonna converge somehow. The guys on 4chan decided to be unrestrained, poorly informed, pessimistic, lazy, deconstructionist morons and they turned out to be literal nazis. Your community is kinda what you make of it and I assign value (too arrogantly) to scrutinizing what I think is wrong. And also I like discussing.

It's just that Rams is a self-proclaimed (pseudo)intellectual with no actual merit :geek:
Oh yeah? What's something I said without merit?

Seems my impression was more correct than I thought originally.
You seek to better your environment, something that commands respect on its own, from me at least. But this particular environment doesn't really need or want to get better. 90% of the Off-Topic crowd (and the On-Topic, I'm willing to bet, but they won't admit that) are looking specifically to do just what you describe as "sit in a community validating each others' poorly informed opinions tacitly or otherwise and you sure know it that your (misinformed) opinions are gonna converge somehow ". Either consiously, or sub-consiously. This very argument once again is my best example, as I am sitting here, chatting with a complete stranger, discussing trivialities. Or the Gun Enthusiasts/Martial Arts and similar threads. None of us is really an expert on martial arts, with some exceptions, of course. And yet, we are bickering on the value of each, proper training routines and whatnot. It's pastime, pure and simple. I do hope we present a better image than the 4chan regulars, but in the end, I am not that concerned about it.

Oh yeah? What's something I said without merit?

Well, technically speaking, this sentence was without merit. It didn't serve any purpose, or had any value or worth. It was a neutral question.

You say that but we literally had nazis with swastika avvys in the off-topic at some point that we all just kinda tolerated because we knew them and they would never reeeeeallly do anything that bad. But the argument is that these people exist irl and vote. My racist uncle isn't just a lovable misinformed goof, but it's the mother****er that elected Trump, who's administration runs concentration camps. Who do you hold accountable for that ****? Do you work preventively or punitively if you want to stop it? Responsibility is completely diluted when you operate in a society (no one post the meme) and the harm just exists, however bad, if you don't do anything, right? It's convoluted and maybe my head is too far up my ass in ethics and theory. Anyway.
