About Us

The 15th MA is the N&S side of the 15e from NW. As such you will not be able to apply to the 15th, membership is automatic through membership in the 15e in NW.

The 15th Regiment Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry is a flexible Infantry Company that is capable of performing both Line and Skirmisher tactics in battle. The 15th MA prides itself in it's versatility, excelling in both marksmanship and melee. Melee is truly a hallmark that we are proud of though, with many of our members being Groupfighting and NWEC Tournament winners, as well as having a large playerbase of prolific veterans from the old MM era. Furthermore, leadership is also an important part of our repetoire. We have a commited Officer staff that values a good knowledge of field tactics as much as pastoral support of our members through thorough training and not least the administration side of the regiment. For more info about us see our NW thread or our website

History of the 15th MA

The 15th Massachusetts Regiment was mustered into Federal service on 12th July 1861, and left for the seat of war, arriving along the Potomac on 25th August. On 21st October, it was engaged with the heaviest loss among all Federal regiments at the Battle of Ball's Bluff. In the spring of 1862, it was made a part of the II Corps of the Army of the Potomac and accompanied it during the Peninsular Campaign, being engaged at the Battles of Seven Pines, Savage's Station, and Glendale with modest losses. In April 1862, the First Company of Massachusetts Sharpshooters was attached to the regiment, serving with it until the spring of 1863. Spending most of the summer at Harrison's Landing, it departed in August just in time to miss the Battle of Second Bull Run. The regiment then embarked upon the Maryland Campaign, where it was savagely flanked by the Confederates at the Battle of Antietam, losing 344 of its 606 men. No regiment suffered greater loss for the day, and only 3 other regiments lost more killed in a single engagement (10:cool: during the entire Civil War. During the Battle of Fredericksburg, it was kept out of the main assault on Marye's Heights and suffered relatively few losses. The Battle of Gettysburg found the regiment engaged against the assaults of the Army of Northern Virginia on 2nd and 3rd July 1863 with heavy loss. On 3rd July, the 15th Massachusetts was facing the attack of Pickett’s division, during the famous Pickett’s charge. By 1864, the regiment's strength had dwindled, but it still faced rigorous campaigning with action at The Battle of the Wilderness, Spotsylvania, Cold Harbor, and the siege of Petersburg. By 22nd June, the regiment could field only 75 officers and men. On 26th July 1864, the 15th Massachusetts was disbanded with its recruits and re-enlistees being transferred to the 20th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. Thanks to Winfield S. Hancock for reasearching the regiment for us!
