Ok, who didn't get bored travelling in the world map at least one time??
was travel so boring even in middle age?
i guess not, even if some WW enthusiasts thinks differently from me.
i propose to add a little minigame in the world map, that's nothing more than a training session between the Hero and one of his henchmen... this could be used instead of training ability and to pass time during long travels...

Just need to mod more spawns?

(De-rail)

Something that could be nice on the world map would be roads and different kinds of terrain, in addition to plains, forest, mountains (impassable) and water (impassable). In a rocky terrain horses could be slowed more than infantry, in a marshland there would be a slow-down, but roads would give a small speed bonus. This would make the routing algorithm a bit more complex, but not that complex.

I would actually like to be able to hang out with my troops and practice with a wooden sword when passing the time at a tavern. I feel like i'm not really doing much when midnight comes and my units all recieve a bunch of experience while i'm running away from some dark hunters.

The only problem with the way you are suggesting it is that it wouldn't make the long travels any shorter. Right now the long-travel minigame for me is killing forest bandits. So unless like a tetris console can be pulled down to play while you are traveling, I don't think minigames are fully necessary.

Although I actually would like to fight my own guys in addition to training them. Kinda like adding a few xp to just one guy in relation to your training skill.

an optional minigame, I think is what he meant.

Perhaps you could talk to the unit, and then ask if they want to train...? The unit gets half as much experience as they would from a whole day. The arena could be a dirt circle, with a camp-scene background. You couldn't leave the circle, and there would be a couple horses tied up in the background, also

It would look like a camp, basicaly. You and your selected training partner would have a duel w/ wooden swords, while your other units stood watching :p

it's exactly how i imagined it, Orion. Pity the majority thinks that's a not so good idea...
anyway chasing forest bandits is good as far as

your speed >>bandid's

becouse if it isn't so you will chase 'em for a good 5 minutes before having a good fight or givin' up. and that's because i would prefer fast and free action.

WEll i think the idea weould be pretty fun i dont think its needed but it would be onestep close to making it game of the year

I can't know by what i see of the game if it is possible to make it with no effort at all, but it would be kool, absolutely.
Unfortunately i realized that the word "mingame" doesn't really fit with the idea most people have of this proposal. That's because i think the poll failed (no result prevails so far...)
Anyway i don't want to bore the forum with this post, but if some one else would start another post on "pacific fightings and training over Calradia"...

I think the game world clock stops during combat, so such a mini game wouldnt make travel faster. Even if that isnt the case there are logical problems (what is going on in the game world during the meantime, how can I avoid bandit groups and such when I dont see them, and wouldnt the hero have to pause his travel to train anyway?).
It would be nice to have the option for other reasons (just as you can practice swordfighting in the original Pirates game). It could be restricted to footy action against a chosen number of soldiers on flat terrain, and would require one to buy practice weapons.

A better solution to the slow trip problem would be to allow accelerated time during overland travel. Maybe one could make it active while a key is held down.

How did you get 140 fps? I get between 20 and 35 all the time. I think that's good enough.

The campaign map just needs more complexity.

- Roads for caravans and patrols
- Groups of bandits alongside those roads hiding from the latter to ambush the former
- Large, slow-moving parties that set up camp and send out guard patrols.
- Different sizes and types of settlements (Small town, Metropolis, Fort, Bandit hideout)

There should never be fifty bandits traipsing around in one mass. They should set up a camp of a hundred or more men and send out scouting parties of ten men. If you try to attack the small (fast) party, it flees back and the whole group fights you.

Similarly, an army would stick to the roads on its way to attack an enemy town or fort. If the scouts of that faction discover an enemy army, the army will then try to march and intercept it.
