13-year-old wants to sail around the globe

She should at least do it once while accompanied by others. Expecting to be able to do it on her own the first time shows a certain lack of judgment on her part. She may be a very competent sailor, but she's got a long way to go before she's experienced enough to tackle a journey of that magnitude.

I would let her sail around my ****, with her MOUTH!

but no really I wouldn't shes kinda ugly.

Anyways on topic, 13 year yeah old girls should be in the kitchen honing their skills in sandwich making and not sailing around the worlds.

If I was her father I'd be more concerned with what might happen to her when she docks at 3rd world countries, especially Africa.

there was a 15 or 17 year old dude who already did it, he almost encountered pirates up close. He said that they were circling his ship so he called  uhm, the ppl who goes out of sea what ever.
While talking to his mother on a cellphone. The coastguard (i just remembered what the internation sea ppl are called) eventually showed up and the pirates fled. He also had a gun with him just in case.
I seriously doubt a 13 year old girl will survive, but if she does. Kudos to her she is fit to survive.

give her a gun and say good luck! That's all I have to say about it.

Hmm.. honing.

Wait. That doesn't work!

I think she's too young to be embarking on a journey of this magnitude, but I admire her determination to try. It's not often that you hear about people who actually try to live their dreams. Hopefully she'll be able to do so in a few years.

She's not going anymore, coz she's being watched by child protection. And her mum (parents are divorced) is actually against the whole thing. Seems to me dad got a bit carried away in making his daughter making him proud of her and printed something stupid in her head.

Except she doesn't have to, the money spent on this trip could do wonders for charity organizations.

The coast guard services are national, not international. Every time one of these idiots gets themselves in a situation, military or civilian forces of a nation usually go out there to help them, at the expense of the nation.

Err? You hope she drowns just cause you dont approve of the idea? Nice.
No, I hope she drowns because we already have too many stupid people in this world.

Yes, you're one of them. She seems to be of the better part of humanity, while you rot away in the wastes of uselessness.

Does that mean sailing around the world for a record is useful?
It's about as meaningful as someone who goes to college and then spends the rest of their lives trying to pay of the subsequent debt. It's simply more enjoyable, less time consuming, and gets your name in the papers.

She would learn more about herself on this trip than most people do in a lifetime. The experience would be invaluable.

Meh I would just let her go if I could, but people do raise good points. In that she is probably too inexperienced to do something like this. If I was her parent I would certainly fear for her safety, but if she honestly believed she could do this and was honestly dedicated I suppose I would let her only because she would use her evil manipulative smile on me and charm me into it... Or I would slap her and tell her to make me a sandwich

These three quotes reflect my opinion on the matter.
Especially Mage246's point, as I was watching Top Gear when they brought on a twenty-something woman who had sailed either across the Atlantic or across the world solo, and her stories of how ultimately rigorous and challenging it were lead me to believe that 13 is too young.

let the ho do what she wants. IF SHE FEELS LIKE STANDING ON A BOAT FOR 2 YEARS THEN BY GEORGE LET HER.

*sits down.*
