Sure the numbers were uneven, but percentages tell a better story than just raw numbers, tbqh.

As another example, in the America Civil War, the Union deployed a total of 2,100,000 men, and 360,000 men were killed in total.

The Confederates deployed a little over half of that number, 1,064,000 men, and they lost 260,000 men.

Now, while the numbers of deployed men for the Confederates was lower, they still lost 24.44% of their men, while the Union only lost 17.14% of theirs. And guess who won the war?

Addendum: If you would like to count the number of men killed or wounded, then for the Union it's 30.25% and for the Confederacy it's 37.31%.
