Some people (aka., the commenter) won't even settle for a compromise. They don't want a peaceable line with religion. There isn't much you can do with them or for them unless religion is trashed. (Granted I just fulfilled number 7, but oh well. )

I say well done to the writer.

Why would we want a peaceable line? This argument is so much fun, it gives me the feeling the German gunners in WW1 must have felt, mowing down thousands of unarmed Russians, cause there are so many of you, and you are for the most part so terrible at debating.

Bad analogy, the Germans lost WW1.
We on the other hand, will win!

Germany didn't take over Russia, they signed a treaty. A treaty, hmm what does that sound like.... A compromise?

Yeah, but said compromise, applied to the Creationism vs Evolutionism debate would be like if the Evolutionists had the Creationists on the run, then Space aliens invaded, so they had to compromise to make peace so they could deal with the space aliens.

Space aliens would pwn us all.

IMO, religion is dangerous.  It is in its own right an unwillingness to look at the world and deal with it as it is, and it makes its adherents easy to persuade of evil things.  While I do not condone the persecution of religion, I can and will say that the world would be better off if nobody believed in god.

I don't think so. People will act irrationally regardless. Religion is just the byproduct of the social evolution of an animal too smart for it's own good. Sure, religion is irrational, but it's not the disease, merely a symptom.

Do you really think that? I don't think religion is going anywhere anytime soon. And really, getting rid of religion isn't worth the cost of trying, because as I've said, humans are animals regardless. (But not monsters  )

And then Germany fell apart and got invaded by space aliens of its own. The moral of the story is: religious people and atheists shouldn't fight each other, because if they do then space aliens will come down and destroy them both.

For both sides here:

What do you think of the idea that religion is utterly useless, that its secular benefits are nothing that couldn't be replaced or emulated by non-religious organizations, activities, etc.? IIRC the atheist commentator outright says this, but does not demonstrate how.

Religion in general can be a pain, but really gamer, I think you're exaggerating a bit. No Harry Potter?
 lol, I know. But I used to read them and I'd hear how the Christians protested them, etc. and it just seemed really stupid. If you look at it, Christianity is really arrogant. You can't believe anything but it, and their belief is better then all others.

To be honest, I've seen more arrogant (or just rude) atheists than Christians. I mean, just look at the comments you have made so far in this thread; you are acting the same way you think Christians act. Which I hate to inform you, is not true. The only Christians I have heard of that forbid watching (or reading) Harry Potter are the Christians (and I seriously use that term loosely in their case) that I saw in the documentary, "Jesus Camp," and even then, it's rare that you will see a christian acting like them.

I guess it only takes the actions of a few to give an impression on the whole religion.

I think that this is only true because there's a large outspoken atheist demographic on Taleworlds. Same with the religious; all you need to do is go to the right places and sites.

I haven't read it, but I'm guessing it's over-generalised clap-trap written by a theist who cites very little social or psychological research. I shudder to think what the author says about morality.

Judging something sight unseen, real classy.
Pretty much. Way to pass judgment there, Lazarou.

EDIT: When I read it I was honestly expecting the usual religion-bash holiday so near and dear to your hearts. I was pleasantly surprised.

My post has been forgotten

Well it's kind of a rhetorical question, since it obvious how both sides would feel about it, ie oppositely.
