10 Companions - the Ultimate Way to Conquer Calradia?

正在查看此主题的用户

Is the hassle of keeping 10 companions happy in your party worth it in your opinion, can it even be done for the duration of the entire game?

You have probably seen the diagram below showing the relations between companions, blue arrows representing mutual likes, and the circles visualizing mutual dislikes, i.e. Alayen dislikes Marnid and Nizar, Nizar dislikes Alayen and Firentis. There is an even number of heroes in each circle.
If you want to avoid any dislikes you can pick 3 companions from the small circle and 5 companions from the big circle, by simply skipping the dislikes next to a companion on the circle. There is a total of 4 different combinations of conflict free groups.

Curiously there is also a way to pick a total of 10 companions, who each have exactly one guy they like and one they dislike : (Alayen, Nizar, Beheshtur, Katrin, Matheld, Ymira, Bunduk, Rolf, Artimenner, Borcha) They need to be all recruited rather quickly, to create this balance as well as kept happy by avoiding running from battle, failing quests etc. Presumably the four nobles (Alayen, Rolf, Matheld and Beheshtur) also would need to be made lords in quick succession before they become disgruntled, then at least Marnid can be recruited to replace the nobles in a remaining conflict free group of 7.

The speed at which money is spent on training troups is basicaly the only limiting factor for the player's military might in the mid and late game, and this speed is determined by the combined training skills of high level companions. Having 10 companions and 4 nobles among them is a way to min/max the game, to make the most out of the possible.

But this is all largely hypothetical and in need of some evidence! So, have you guys pulled it off?

Hmmm..i play with nine companions and i dont really think a tenth one would make enough of a difference to deal with the problems it could bring.

Nizar
Firentis
Matheld
Deshavi
Klethi
Rolf
Baheshtur
Jeremus
Lezalit

This group has never given me trouble, as long as ive not done things they dislike.
But seeing what they dislike(fleeing, raiding villages, no pay or food) i dont have trouble with it.

Well, similarly, you could build a party of seven companions, and then once you've got your kingdom going you can find/lordify the remaining companions while your 7 are hanging out in one of your taverns. That's more or less what I've been doing, and it's working out alright thus far. Though I don't have a problem making non-nobles into lords - the 1-5 penalty I get with everyone isn't enough to offset the honor bonus I've got with all of the ones that matters. That the dishonorable ones hate me even more isn't much of an issue.

EDIT: By hanging out in taverns, I meant your garrison.

I roll with 8 companions, and once they're up to about lvl 20 I already feel it's an insanely strong group so I've never felt the need to go through the hassle of fitting more companions.

It would feel almost like cheating having more companions seeing how strong they get while being immortal, plus the combined ability to train recruits in top tier units in a few days.  But I'm sure you could hold your 10 seeing how the companion mechanics work.

Wow, actually I like your choice a lot because you have 5 nobles* in there, and once lords they can be replaced by 4 for a conflict free late game. Basically you could make use of 13 out of 16 available companions, as well as 5 out of 6 nobles.

I think i'm going to switch out the companions in my current (8 companion) game for your choice, because i only have to replace 4, and they'll hit lvl 30 in no time considering the training skills of the rest.

I'm on board with Filou on this issue; eight companions who all get along will not drag your party morale down.  Lower party morale means lower map speed, which I hate with a passion.

@Cuir Mustache

Yeah thats pretty much why i like that combination. You get some decent lords and can still field a neat party to back your army up.
But it is not really my idea, i found the combination on the Wiki iirc.
Just saying.

@Lord Brutus
Thats something i didnt knew, good info!
Though my choice never had any ill effect on my army morale thus far.

What’s all this about ten Companions? There’s only one you need---Ymira. Start with the lowest-leveled girl with no fighting experience, train her to 5 ironflesh and 5 powerstrike, give her a coat of plates and a greatsword, then the two of you can wade into battle and conquer Calradia back to back.

No, seriously, when I get companions I always choose them for story or roleplaying aspects rather than gameplay.
If I’m a bandit, Borcha, Rolf, Deshavi, and Klethi are all in, even though Deshavi is hated by the two men her friendship with Klethi makes up for some of the morale, and the constant winning battles against caravans and looting their variety of foods helps keep her from leaving. Another start of mine is university scholar, in which case I go for the intellectual companions like Jeremus, Marnid, Artimenner and Lezalit. I don’t seem to notice too bad of an effect on morale, I’m still usually able to outrace most parties larger than mine and don’t have desertions.

hmm...  I might have to give a companion only recce army a go.

The problem I have is I always seem to gravitate to the same companions in every game.

Aalyen - cavalry, lance, sword+board
Firentis - infantry, sword+board
Ymira - infantry crossbow, backup healer
Jerimus - infantry crossbow, prime healer
Baheshtur - cavalry, lance+bow
Deshavi - infantry, archer
Matheld - cavalry, sword+board
Rolf - cavalry, lance, sword+board

hmm maybe I could lose jerimus and take lezalit (if aaylen is there that should appease ymira) and then redesignate everyone as cavalry with either lance/sword+board or lance/bow(or xbow)

?

JackintheBox's nine companions are really worth thinking about.  You train those five to be lords, get your party skills from the others, and then when you start your own kingdom you'll have five player-made lords to start you off and you could recruit more companions.

Except I always stay with all upstanding or good-natured lords, so I never to worry about their relationship with me.  And I bet these companion-lords aren't all upstanding or good-natured and you've have to play games to keep them happy.

usually aim for 10: the Firentis/Jeremus set + Matheld and Nizar.
Nizar is disliked by Alayen and Firentis, Matheld by Ymira and Jeremus.
But since Alayen likes Ymira and Firentis likes Jeremus, it's manageable, with a bit of care.

edit: whoa what a necro!

What's involved in "managing?"  How high is your Leadership?  You take Nizar's side against Alayen and Firentis and Matheld's side against Ymira and Jeremus?  Does somebody come and tell you they're leaving everyday?  How low are their moods?  You can't keep party morale over 90 all the time when you're carrying a large army.  I've tried it.  It just doesn't work.

Exactly. I go for max leadership and always have a variety of food. Only invite Nizar or Matheld after the rest of the party is set. I take care that morale doesn't go  lower than "weary", later it stays at "content", which is fine for me. If morale drops too low, I send Nizar or Matheld on a field trip. Lower map speed is no problem, that's what I have Deshavi for.

I use TweakMB to disable any companion complaints and disagreements. I get them all and assign them a new group. In battle I use them as meat so they always get charged by enemy calvary or infantry first while my crossbowmen keep firing. I mostly level their strength, ironflesh and power strike and give them really good equipment. I keep 2-3 companions for increasing party skills I don't have the skill points or attributes to level.
