Recently i came upon a mod that allows you to respec your useless childs into skillable level1-chars. I was very glad about this. However, my childs are still partially useless, as there is no way to raise their trade-skill because you can´t send them out to operate caravans. Spouses by the way can´t do this either.

As a result, they won´t ever become capable gouvernors, because many "useful" gouvernor perks are hiding in the trading skilltree. Well, useful at least if the perks are eventually working in general.

By the way... Childs don´t partizipate in tournaments either...

Hi, can you please check and see if the situation is the same on a new, unmodded campaign? If yes, I can contact the developers to see if there is a bug or if it's by design.

Regarding Modding Related Issues
As far as spouses are concerned, it was allways like this. I was never able to let my wife operate a caravan and she was never participating in tournaments while she was a member of my party. She was only participtaing, when she had her own party and was part of my army or when she was idling around or be governour in a town where a tournament was held. I also reported the tournament-issue (with spouses) at least twice in this forum allready.

Maybe it´s because of the lord-status, lord-companions behave different than wanderer-companions. They for example are by default in the cavalry formation as party members.

As far as childs are concerned, the whole thing didn´t bothered me so far, because unmodded they where totally useless in ANY circumstance.

I´ll try to find a save with my 1st grownup daughter in unmodded condition and see, if i can get her to operate a caravan. Maybe someone else can test it also.

Regarding the children tournament-behavior : It doesnt´t matter if they are partymembers or just idling, i couldn´t make them participate in tournaments anyhow until now. They seem to refuse it completely.

Found an old save. Waited until my untouched/unmodded son was 18 and tried to send him out with a caravan. He just doesn´t show up in the list of companions, when in dialogue with the merchant where you usually form the caravan. My wife doesn´t either, like allready mentioned.

I really think, it´s because of the lords-status and by design. Just one more of the many not-really-thought-through things in this game.

I forgot to mention ... theres another thing, my childs and my spouse never do : They don´t show up, when I take a walk through a village or a town. I can´t gather them like my other followers before I for example mess with some thugs. When I press ALT and look around, they are nowhere to see.

I must add, that in both of my campaigns I had Liena as my wife. Maybe only SOME spouses and their offsprings do behave like described.

I would appreciate if some other players could share their experiences here in this thread.

[1.5.6] In the meantime...

And STILL nothing changed...

Family members are still third-class-companions, because they are

1.) Not capable to operate caravans

2.) Do not take part in tournaments while they are in your party

3.) Are not available as support in gang fights

Skilling normal companions is hard enough, but skilling family members is even harder because they simply refuse to do so many things.

I have been informed that this issue is fixed on our development branch and the fix will be implemented with the upcoming patches. Thanks for reporting!
