In 1.4.1, immediate aggression is declared against whichever faction the player joins as a vassal. Until that point, all factions remain locked in their starting condition (war with one rival, e.g. Vlandia vs Sturgia, Aserai vs Southern Empire). Upon joining a faction, it will immediately vote unanimously for war on a neighbour, or have war declared on them by a neighbour. This will occur several times very quickly, resulting in the player-aligned faction facing 4 wars within very few days of joining.
Unclear what will cause appetite for peace; most wars go on endlessly. The few times a war is ceased, it is very quickly followed by another war with either a different faction, or the same again. The # of simultaneous wars faced by the player's faction seems to be steady, at 4. Throughout a playthrough of 1.4.1, the other factions will not declare war on each other, or make peace. If the player leaves a faction and joins a different one as vassal, that new faction becomes the recipient of war on multiple fronts.
