(0.632) NPC shields don't break?! (never mind, yes they do)

Okay, I just shot a swordsman's shield maybe 20 times as a horse archer in the arena, and it didn't break. I mean, I literally saw at least ten arrows sticking out of it, probably more. (I was going to take a screenshot once I ran out of arrows, but he killed me first.) Has anyone here ever seen an NPC's shield break?

Whoops, my bad! I just figured out that it must've been one of those super-high-level NPCs from the arena. Doubtless his/her shield skill was through the roof. I just broke someone's shield in a test, so this is confirmed negative.
