His Brittanic Majesty's 24th
RSW (Royal South Wales Borderers) is a regiment of Foot, raised to defeat "Boney the Ogre" on the fields of glory, on peninsula or mainland areas of active Service to His Majesty, or to the Field Marshal Wellington's call of men capable of Service to the Crown & England. The 24th RSW, raised in Warwickshire, is a Reg't devoted to doing England proud, by either the skill of a man's use of his weapon, or by the group in total's mettle. Discipline, appearance, and skill are all qualities looked for in able-bodied recruits, as well as tact and the ability to present one's self well in the light of others.

♔~ Interesting Information ~♔

♔~ OFFICER'S BIO ~♔

gS7zc.png

The 24th RSW is commanded by myself, Spearington, and is LtCol'd by my good friend, TkTom. We have been playing black-powder games as officers of Line, Skirmisher, Cav, Artillery, or Light Infantry, for well over a year straight. We have extensive combat experience, and have had a shining record of victories on and off the public fields of battle.

♔~ Ranker's Information ~♔

rfPlC.png

Each ranker is given two purposes in life when enlisting with the 24th:

- To carry himself with a distinguished air, where he realizes that he, even if he is just a simple ranker in a line, embodies the ideas and reasons of the 24
th, where he shall not commit "troll-y" actions, and shall be honourable, and if challenged to a duel by a friend or foe, whether it be of a friendly or negative view, shall satisfy his opponent. He shall not engage in political debate, unless invited to, and shall not dishonour the names of his officers, comrades, or his regimental history in any way shape or form.

- To hark the orders, to salute the colours in the beginning of each linebattle by providing the ceremonial " one-volley salute " ordered by his commanding officer, and shall be resolute with his actions. When ordered into an action, he shall be stalwart in the face of the opposition, no matter how big or small it should be. He shall honour his enemies' existence by providing a quick, well-timed death on the plains of Service, and shall always do as he is told. He shan't "**** about" when orders are being given, and he will always lead by example.

♔~ The Colour Guardsman's Duty ~♔

The CG shall, as suggested by the name, make it their existence's reason to guard the King's Cloth. He shall give his life as a means to give the flag another reason to wave some more, even if to just signify the Regiment's existence. The Colour Guard shall defend the carrier at all times, on and off the field.

♔~ Formations ~♔

jB4ny.png

The formations are simple enough: Column, Square, 2 Rank-deep Line, Single-Rank Line, and finally: "The Charge". Each soldier in the 24th RSW has a duty to learn and perfect himself in the arte of forming such formations. He is required to do them on the field, and as thus he will be given the tools of how to form them by his officers during pre-determined training times. He shall learn them, and shall perform them to the best of his ability. Should he be unable to, he shall look upon his own means to learn from the men beside him on how to do it proper.

♔~ Discipline in the Line ~♔

4Wa1v.png

Every soldier is expected to do as ordered. Do not get out of line unless told or given permissions to. Stay with your comrades, and do what is required in the eyes of your CO's to achieve victory during times of Service.

♔ ~ Special Readings ~ ♔

scaled.php

The GROC&T is a pre-cursory group of essays I'm going to be writing that will provide anyone who is enlisting within the 24th a basic gist of what it is they are supposed to do. These essays will be a required reading if you enroll wth the other in-game courses, so please read as they are publish.

What is the difference between being Enlisted, Non-Commissioned, Commissioned, and a CO?

Quite often I am asked by lower rankers and such: "What is the purpose of my being here?" Well, aside from 42, it is quite simple.

♔ ~ Enlisted Men ~ ♔

The Enlisted man is the core of any fighting group. They do the work, without them, nothing can be done on a noticeable scale. An enlisted rank, generally speaking, is Cpl and below. Enlisted men are those who carry the standard Musket, who drill and fill the ranks, those who are the mass majority of the biomass within the regiment.

The Enlisted man has a generally monotonous life, but it has big responsibilities. He must not only follow orders, but also know how to do them. How to fight, and how to win.

How to give Enlisted and NCO's the opportunity to win is the job of the CO and Officers, the Enlisted and NCO's job is to exploit that option when it is given.

The Enlisted man has a responsibility to know the formations. What they are, what they look like, what they look like from aerial view, their purpose, and specifically this: Where they fit in that formation. Where should I be positioned? Generally speaking, an Enlisted man is put in a place at random, generated by factors such as his current position in the formation before evolution, how quickly he gets there, and other factors. He must simply know the function, and know what function he is to perform. Example: A square. It is a four-sided formation, with 2 ranks. The front rank crouches, keeping it's bayonet on the ground, but is allowed to fire and reload if the enemy is far enough away, and isn't in danger of contacting the sides of the square. IF he is positioned in the front, it is his job to know and act in accordance of the guidelines of the formation's demanded etiquette. He is infront, therefore his primary objective is to keep his musket braced on the ground (Your character automatically does this in the NW DLC, so keep that in mind. When not presenting or reloading, your character automatically braces i believe.) and that alone is his most important function. He may fire, reload, and look about, but he must at all times be ready to act.

Enlisted men generally have a duty to perform. They are rarely recognized for their actions, but when they are, they are rewarded splendidly and speedily.

The Enlisted man, in short, is the coding of the programming of the Regiment. He, while working with his fellow 90%, make the appearance of the regiment and present it to the world.

♔ ~ The NCO ~ ♔

The NCO, or Non-Commissioned Officer, is a soldier who has moderate-to-veteran status combat experience. He has been a part of numerous engagements, and knows all of the formations.

The title of NCO means literally non-commissioned. He is non commissioned because he has not yet been given a commission of his own. He will be commissioned, such as being ranked up to an Ens, whereto he shall be given a commission of being a flag carrier or some other important duty, required by the regimental standards and regulations. He does not have command of a body of men, either, unless given to him temporarily. Even though that is given, though, it is still temporary, and does not mark him as having a Commission. Thus we have a Non-Commissioned Officer. Technically speaking though, the officer bit of that abbreviation is more of a decoration, as they are still not in the officer class.

The NCO usually is a Sgt, Sgt Maj, or anyone above Cpl, but below Ensign. He is the middle-man. The officers communicate their orders to him, and he disperses the wishes of the officers to the Enlisted, and makes sure it happens in a timely fashion, as well as smartly.

The NCO has the same duties as the Enlisted man as well. He must know his place in a formation, and he must stick with it, but he must also bear another one: To make sure the Enlisted men around him stay in their proper place. The Enlisted men might be the backbone, but he is the connective tissue, making them all stay together in a cohesive fashion.

The NCO, summed up, is the courier, the boundary, between the Officers and the Enlisted.

♔ ~ The Commissioned (Officers) ~ ♔

The Officers, or Commissioned Officers, are anyone who is above the rank of Ensign. These are the decision makers. They are ultimately the last-word. They decide the movements, the actions, and the future of the Regiment. they are given the power of life and death, and are entrusted to make sure it is kept to a strict "Try to make more live than die" policy on the battlefield.

In the words of Napoleon: "You must be ready to commit everything, no matter it's value, in order to achieve victory."

Officers may issue orders to do a seemingly suicidal move or action, but in reality, they know something that the Enlisted or NCO's might not know. this is the major quality of an officer: He knows things the Enlisted don't know, and as thus, and as he has all the facts of his where-abouts, he can make educated decisions on where to go next to achieve one of three (3) objectives:
a) To secure a better position, upon which to base future offensive or defensive maneuvers against the enemy.
b) To perform an action that will inflict a 3:1 ratio of casualties, with the enemy taking the larger portion.
c) To cause the enemy to react in a beneficial motion towards the Regiment, I.e: Outflanking them, and causing them to have a few moments of disorder due to them re-forming, thus giving you time to volley and inflict damage upon them.

The officer, although having a seemingly simple job, must have only two goals in his mind at all times during a battle:

A) Keep the regiment alive.

Casualties are acceptabe; you never come out of a battle with 100% health. There will always be wounded, you will sometimes take deaths among the reg't. That is acceptable. War is unfair, and people will die. As an officer, you must be prepared to sacrifice in order to gain.

B) To win.

An officer must make decisions that will carry the field in his favour. If fighting en masse during a massive 250-man LB, he must make decisions that will tip the scales and make his side win, or at least give them a larger chance to.

The 24th (Warwickshire) Royal South Wales Borderers invite you to come and join us for an invitational linebattle any day that we have one. We will endeavour to take part in such events as the Sunday linebattle, the Saturday linebattle, and any other events which it would be possible for us to attend. We will have scheduled trainings, where every man is given a chance to learn the points behind the drills and pomp of musketry, as well as a chance to socialize with his fellow man.

The 24th focuses on keeping a tight-knit group that works together, more than separately, on the field. If you think yourself as someone who would benefit from working with a historically-accurate, well-disciplined group that has more focus on being a winning team than anything else (although fun is a large factor), we are your people.

Quick march is Men of Harlech. Still a tad welsh! And besides, our colour guard is filled with welshmen, so no need for volunteers I suppose...
