For new siege scenes I would like to suggest destructible doors from the walls to the inside of the towers.

If one of your clan's fiefs is under siege, and your character is not there, fight as your governor.
This way you can participate in high stakes battles not initiated by the player.

I think in sieges it it would work a lot better if the defenders were not able to open the gate when it is currently being rammed by the battering ram. So they would actually have to sally out to handle the people manning it or attack them with ranged weapons.
