  1. The Last Kingdom: Saxon Chronicles TV Series

The book series I found was enjoyable, and I've been liking the TV show for what it is...

That said, a lot of little things bug me (Beocca as a bald normal-looking man instead of a palsied redhead? Alfred actually being a half-decent warrior? A greater focus on Uhtred's militant defense of his paganism?  Serpent-Breath being way too ornate?  And of course 2/3 of Book 1 being covered in the course of the Pilot episode). That said, I can watch, and truly enjoy it on its own. Just not as an adaptation of Cornwell's work.

G_Los also hit on a lot of the toher things that annoyed me.  Uhtred was TAKEN to Eoferwic to learn how to be a proper ruler...not hidden away because he's the 'future' of Bebbanburg...and I was hoping for a rather impressive setpiece battle where the Danes draw the Saxons in through a broken section of wall before being trapped from two sides...

Eh, again, good stuff, just not a terribly faithful interpretation of the novels.
  2. The Gulag: Bug Reports

Probably noted before, but whenever a projectile hits water/ice on the battle map I get an error scroll about there not being(I think) any sort of splash animation for the projectiles.  Don't have a screencap but I'll put one up shortly.

Also, the Eastern rifle lacks textures from from midway along the hand grip to the muzzle.
  3. Frustrated by Camera

I had no idea that was even an option!  I'll give it a shot in the future.
  4. Frustrated by Camera

Is there any way to turn off the 'Armageddon Camera' or whatever it's called?  Simply running around and getting the camera thrown into random angles isn't the least bit pleasant, never mind disorienting.  Doubly so when I go into first-person mode to do shooting and all that happens instead is...
  5. {Spoiler?} Branching Quests, Doccinga Prisoner, and Long-Term Consequences?

I'm currently playing through for the first time.  However, I have played the opening section (Friese and Danmark up to the farmhouse exchange) of the game several times as I explored and tested out various things in the storyline, one thing that struck me wsa that Reginhard mentions, should you...

    Because there was no poland

But wasn't there a semi-autonomous princedom in former Poland...Krakow I think, or was that also re-absorbed back into whoever owned it by 1860?
  7. Main Thread - 3.0 released!

Much appreciated.  Somehow I missed that spoiler tag.

There's described how to activate the Campaign a little further back. But it's only shipped with Custom Battle enabled

How far back?  I've looked through all 15 pages and haven't seen anything...just a few mentions in the first 3-4 pages of it being available, during the January alpha (which you can't seem to download anymore) but no words on how to get it working with teh current version.
  9. Spear Overhaul (overhand + underhand attack animations, stat changes)

Is this compatible with Julu70's 1.40 bugfix fan-patch thing, or do I have to manually make the changes in his files in order for this to work right?
  10. 1860s - SAY or ASK WHATEVER U WANT !! (....in a KIND way...)

Not sure if it's been answere elsewhere but figured itw as worth asking here: is there any way to expand the camera range in Mexico and the far western US?  I'm finding that playing in those regions is very difficult, to say the least, on account of the camera not letting me get a good angle on those sections.  I can control my army out there, but for whatever reason, the static camera border is significantly to the east of the westernmost areas of the map.  Any plans on fixing that up in the next version (that is, after .99m), or is there already an existing workaround for this issue?
  11. SVN Issue - Downloading only one folder

Windows 8, and that wasn't the issue.  Looking the errors over, it was mostly that Google was closing the connection randomly and because it closed improperly or something the cache was corrupted.  So had to clean it every time I restarted the connection.
  12. SVN Issue - Downloading only one folder

I finally got it working and done - damn thing had to be cleaned up every single time it broke down though...but it eventually got done.  Ah well, it's all behind now.

Been playing for the past hour or so and I must say, it's a lot of fun.
  13. SVN Issue - Downloading only one folder

And doesn't seem to be working - it just means that I get to re-download everything to more or less the same point before getting the error.  I've done this a good three or four times, still getting just the music and the one txt file.
  14. SVN Issue - Downloading only one folder

Much appreciated.  I'll give this a try.
  15. SVN Issue - Downloading only one folder

Greetings, I've been looking forward to this mod for quite some time, watching as a lurker on and off since it was announced.  I just noticed that the mod was released and promptly downloaded the SVN.  Or more properly, I tried to download the SVN, but for some reason it only downloads the...
  16. 1860s - PROBLEMS, suggestions....& Solutions, even from you, if possible!

Except for the fact that the mod (like any mod/game of an open-ended nature) is essentially Alternative History - that is, you create an accurate start date, and after that well...things go from there however they may.  A good idea, but not one for Warband; perhaps if this were a more traditional Grand Strategy Game (say along the lines of Hearts of Iron or Victoria), enabling/disabling French/Foreign brigades once their generals get smashed up badly enough would be a fine idea.  But given the immortal nature of generals (capture and release and all at worst), its not exactly something that can/should be done in my opinion.
  17. B Modern [W] Spanish Civil War (*We need codder and gun modeller*)

I'm in the process of learning 3-D modelling; so if I have anything decent for you once I get the hand of things, I'll send it your way.  Not sure how long that might be though.
  18. 1860s - PROBLEMS, suggestions....& Solutions, even from you, if possible!

Shouldn't we be taking the Belgian discussion to the History thread?  It's delving more in that direction, I'd say what with the offering of uniforms, etc etc.

    That said!

I don't think your Belgians in the third image are Belgian either, Smissen - sorry to say.  Something just seems off about them; probably the fact that the Grenadiers and Fusiliers in your images both have that piping at the shoulder instead epaulets.

Anwyays, since you brought up musicians earlier...I thought I'd give you this for whoever's doing art as a better, closer, image of the Fusilier musician's jacket (at least, that's what it looks like, and that's what the caption says if you try to decipher what it says!).

    belgians-mexico-1864.jpg

However, if you look at the infantryman on the far left of this image, you will see he is wearing epaulets.  However, they are far shorter and clearly of a lighter colour than what the red or green epaulets of your image would show up as in a black and white photograph.

    777px-BelgianForeignLegion.jpg

And I know that perhaps painted miniatures aren't exactly the best resource, but according to this imagep of Voltigeurs in file, they didn't wear the shoulder boards.  If they didn't...why does the Voltigeur in your third image, especially when we know there were only one battalion each of light infantry and grenadiers deployed to the Americas?  Perhaps, indeed, they were outfitted with French uniforms as the originals wore out after a year or two, but I think that even in French garb, they would have tried to keep as much of their original appearance (that is, doing away with the epaulets) if possible.  If you look at the piping/trim on the uniforms, you'll notice that the Belgian troops all have gold piping for the rank and file, and red for officers.  Clearly both men in your third image are rank and file...yet in red.

Additionally, Smissen, if you read the thread where you lifted the image of the Voltigeur and Line INfantry in Mexico from, you'd see that the artist that posted teh thread (looking for references on Armchair General) was looking for French soldiers in Mexico.  I do believe that the person that posted that image/link made a mistake in captioning it, sadly.

Sorry if it seems like I excessively tore at you, but wanted to clear the confusion with the image up is all.
  19. 1860s - PROBLEMS, suggestions....& Solutions, even from you, if possible!

Well, basically, find the 'basic' layer, which is basically the folded cloth you see under the banner.  THen you layer the banner itself over it, play around with opacity for both layers until you have the main image layer as well as the faint cloth layer to give that ripple effect and all.

I knwo it's relatively vague and all, but it's just an overview of the process.
  20. 1860s - Historical Topic

I'd say do away with the havelock infantry as a specific unit, nad instead just add havelocked kepis and forage caps at random to the early troops.

For "early war" stuff, I'd focus more on State Militias probably.

Medical corps and engineers, while interesting, probably can be passed on - the medical corps was actually a mostly civilian organisation that followed the troops (Sanitation Commission, early Red Cross people, etc etc) to do a fair bit of that sort of stuff.  Military doctors, while not unheard of, were relatively uncommon and in both cases, would best be abstracted since they never really took the field.  Modern battlefield medicine was unheard of.  The casualties were policed and tended to only after the battle (well...except that ONE time I re-enacted at Neshaminy...and some Confederate cried out for a doctor...but we don't talk about that).

I'd pass on the engineers too, since all of the construction you do in game takes place kind of behind the scenes...and while maybe they could give a small engineering boost, it'd be more appropriate to have engineering officers only to direct the construction.  Even in 'specialised' construction work (mining and counter-mining, explosives laying, constructing field fortifications) the officers from the Corps of Engineers basically just oversaw things.

Maybe having Companions from the Sanitary Commission and from the Army Corps of Engineers instead of having troop trees would be better.
