I agree.

There was too much scenes with the mother too, she was only mentioned in the book as far as I recall.

Even as tiny thing as the cannibal very close to the beginning was strangely changed, he was supposed to wear a painters mask but the other guy in the truck was actually wearing one.

There was even a small scene in the book with a passing very medieval-like army which was left out of the movie.
